What: No one died during the horrible plague scare! That's reason enough for a feast ~~and a mingle log~~ right?

[Someone has been busy today. The kitchen and Distillery has been noisy and bustling, a departure from the much more quiet days when the illness was spreading through the Bastion and survival was once more on the uncertain scale of things. Somewhere around the time that the night cycle begins, when the sky is more of an orange-ish glow fading in to blue and purple, a large spread of food has been set up near the Distillery with glass lanterns hanging overhead.

Just like any other time there has been a feast be it random or planned, there is a wide selection of food on the covered, decorated tables. There's even meat this time! And yes, Aoi, your doughnuts have been transferred from your trees to a platter on the table. There's even a section for Paar, complete with massive amounts of bbq'd mammoth meat! You can thank Colin for that.

There's really no announcement for the feast, but chances are if you're outside at any point today you'll see the progress towards the set up, or smell the delicious scents wafting over the Bastion. (There might even be music playing, if Colin finds a way to provide it!)

Either way, come dusk food will be ready and mingling will be had!]

But a little kick is better than none, so she'll be helping herself to some sauce along with the mammoth meat.]

We can invest in more foodstuffs and condiments when all is said and done.

[Colin gives a crisp nod, and he skewers a steak for Zuko.]

One enough, or are you going to want more, you think?

[Normally, one is enough, but there's Haruka, AZ, Rin, LOTS of people who eat more than usual. No point in making assumptions otherwise.]

[Zuko raises her eyebrow, because the only bottomless stomach people she knows about aren't human. What does Colin think she is?]

One is plenty.

[Colin smiles and sets the steak on a plate for her, holding it out in offering.]

It's medium rare, soft, pink in the middle. If you like it a little more well done, I can put it back on for another couple of minutes.

Rin really outdid herself with all of this.

[Zuko takes it, but no smile for you, Colin.]

Seriously. Did she even have anyone else helping her?

Rin did most of the work in the kitchen. I recruited some help to do just about everything else. Emboar, Zoroark, Golurk and I took care of pretty much everything else.

[Yep, he's not really expecting a smile from Zuko, but that's no reason he can't give one.]

If I had any talent in the kitchen, I would have told her to keep resting. I doubt she'd have listened to me, though. And you don't want me anywhere near complex food. Grilling I can do. Everything else tends to turn out... poorly.

It seems like that for most people here.

[You'd think there'd be at least a few other decent cooks. Or maybe they're in hiding; it does seem like a lot of work.

Time to try a bite of mammoth anyway.]

Cooking is a remarkably challenging skill to learn, and even harder to master. I need to convince Rin of that fact, but she still thinks that she's dumb and hasn't got much going for her.

[Colin rolls his eyes at that, and he grins at Zuko then.]

I'm glad to hear that you like it.

Mammoth is a rare thing to cook, but with Paar's help, it's becoming a staple of most of our diets. Now that we've got the giant barbecue, it should be even easier to make better dishes out of it.

She is pretty hard on herself.

[Still not thrilled about being grinned at, but she'll put up with it.]

Maybe Rin should teach some lessons of her own.

I keep trying to convince her that she could. I don't think she believes me. Not all that surprising, really.

She might listen to you, though. You two have more of a professional friendship, right?

You're teaching her how to better work with her flames, right?

She respects you and trusts you enough to listen to your instruction. Not an easy thing for Rin to do, she's been figuratively burned a lot in her life.

She needed a teacher, and I have a lot of experience with fire. It made sense, that's all.

Maybe, maybe. But Rin's always struck me as the sort to rebel against authority... At least in her past. She's mellowed in her time here.

If she's listening to you, there's a reason for it. Don't sell yourself short either, Zuko. Anyone can see that you've got talent.

You are not, however, especially well learned in verbal combat. There's no way you shouldn't have seen that coming.

As a general rule of command, anyone looking for compliments is generally undeserving of them. THAT is what I was inferring.
