[Day 205] [CLOSED] When days seem meaningless don't go and lie

"I didn't think it was possible to miss this place as much as I did..."

It was hard to think of any place in the Bastion as strictly "home". The word may have been used, but for most it was with a tinge of something missing, something distant and long since destroyed. Right now, though? After spending as long as she did in the hospital, Rin was more than happy to consider this place as something closer to that.

She walked in with Bon (Yukio still at the hospital caring for those who were on the road to recovery) and haphazardly tossed her bag of belongings to the side in the living room, walking over to the couch and promptly faceplanting in to it.

"Mnnn couch..."

Yup. It was good to be back.

Yeah probably not. But he'll still reach for her hand, because he wants to hold on to some part of her.

"Everything that's happened, it's just made me realize a few things. Like how fragile we are, for one, but also how quickly something can go wrong. And knowing that, I don't want to leave anything unsaid, just in case something does go wrong someday, and one of us doesn't make it back."

This is where he starts to look a little embarrassed. Even for a serious talk, it's hard to actually say these things.

"I...well, I love you. And I want to be a part of your life, and share everything with you. Including...some of the stuff I haven't really been so sure about before."

She's fine with that, of course, and even turns sideways on the couch with her legs folded under her, hand turned up to thread her fingers through his. She listens closely, frowning worriedly at his words. She hated to think about it at all, but it was something they couldn't really ignore either.

But it's her turn to flush when he says that, and she realizes that it's the first time he's really said those three words together to her. Her tail even starts to thump on the couch excitedly, a bit of red even creeping in to her ears.

What was he saying? Oh. Right.

"Stuff you haven't been so sure about--... oh. Ohh you mean-- that stuff I was teasin' you about before... ?"

It was indeed a worry of his, especially after they both almost-died in the last week. If anything had gone wrong, one of them (or even both) could have ended up in a funeral pyre. And this wasn't the first time Rin had almost died, either.

But for as serious as the topic is, Bon finds himself feeling small and unsure. This isn't exactly something he's had to seriously discuss before.

"Yeah, that stuff. I'd be okay with it now, I think."

There's a short pause before he quickly adds, "Not right now, I mean, at some point in the near future, instead of like. Years from now."

"W-well yeah, I still feel like crap anyway but--..."

She fidgeted, rubbing her thumb over his fingers in some small effort to calm him.

"Are you really sure? 'cause I mean, I was jokin' that day. I wouldn't wanna push you in to somethin'."

It does help, along with Rin's reassuring words. But Bon is sure of this, so he's going to say as much, even if just saying the word is tough.

"I'm sure. Trust me, I had plenty of time to myself to think it over. I just think that, well, it wouldn't really change that much between us, I don't think. We're already together, and I can't imagine anything short of dying would break us up."

He might be a little naive there, but with the world literally ripped apart, a lot of the troubles they would have had suddenly don't exist anymore.

"And I'd be lying if I said I wasn't curious about it, too."

"I am, too..."

Whoops that sure was making her face red. A smile does manage to work on to her features, and she straightens up.

"I'm glad you feel that way, though. Like... really glad."

Oh good, she's alright with the idea of doing sex-things with him. He was a little worried that she might not be ready for that. It sounds like they're agreeing about it now, though.

"Yeah, me too. It's what couples do, right? And if we're gonna have kids in the future, we'll have to do it eventually anyway."

Of course she is!

"I-I dunno about kids! But... yeah. I mean, that's not the only thing about bein' together..."

Awkward teenagers being awkward about awkward teenage things.

"I do wanna... try it. With you. Eventually."

"Kids are for way in the future when we could take care of them!"

Yeah, even though he thinks he's ready for sex, he's definitely not ready for kids. Still way too young for that.

But they could take care of Tepig and see if they could handle raising a thing that's not a child. Maybe that will show how good of parents they could be.

Also, Bon calms down a bit after that first outburst, so his voice is more normal when he speaks again. "Yeah. We can try it, when we're ready. And not exhausted or sick or anything."

Which was why Bon wanted to have the talk now. If they can talk about it beforehand, then at least they'll both know they want it later, when it comes up again.

Which is something Rin doubts would ever happen with her. Kids? Her? With anyone? As much as she loves Bon (and she does) that idea just leaves her feeling nervous and uncertain inside. What kind of child would some one like her bring in to the world, and would they grow to hate her for the heritage she would have no choice in passing down.

This seems to weigh on her mind, so much so that she barely notices the outburst, and her tail droops to the couch as her gaze shifts away.

Bon definitely notices that shift in behavior, and he begins to worry. Maybe she didn't actually want any of this? Or maybe thinking about the possibility of losing each other is too much for her?

"Rin? What's wrong?"

"I--... I don't... d'you really think I'm gonna be able to... I mean, knowin' what I am, would that really be okay... ?"

"What, us being together? Or you having kids someday?"

That first one should be obvious. They've been dating for months, and anyone who would have given Rin shit for it is dead. But if this is about Rin becoming a mother, then that would be a whole different challenge.

"The last thing."

"Do you not want to have kids?"

Bon never really considered that before. He figured everyone had kids, eventually, so it was really a non-issue.

"I do wanna have a family! It's just... what would I be giving any kids that we do have? Would they hate me for it? What if I totally fuck up at bein' a parent?"

"That's why we'd be doing it together."

It's such a simple answer, for such a serious topic.

"We're both fuckups. We both get angry too easily, and we both have our problems. But together, I think we could do it. You'd tell me when I was messing up, and I'd tell you when you're messing up. If we do it that way, then there's always someone there who's not messing up."

"I--..."

It was a simple answer. Almost too simple for Rin to just accept like that. But she knew Bon, and she knew Bon wouldn't bullshit her.

"... I was a really horrible kid to my dad."

"So? It doesn't mean you'll be a bad parent. Besides, you're not the only one who gave your father a lot of crap."

He's definitely not bullshitting right now.

"No. You don't get it. I was really, really horrible to him. Like parents looked at us and wondered how the hell he could have raised such an awful child. A-and any kids I have? They're gonna be part demon, too!"

Oops. You've got her on a tangent now, Bon.

"Whenever it happens, however it happens, I bet you anythin' that old bastard will be laughin' his ass of while I'm gettin' back every damn thing I deserve from those future brats!"

Rin might be panicking, but Bon is just laughing. Because seeing her fret so much is hilarious to him.

"It's fine, it's fine! We'll do it together, and there's a bunch of babysitters here too if you ever need a break."

Wow Rude Bon.

"... ermf..."

Don't mind her just... fwumping in to your lap there. Apparently she overloaded her brain just reasoning around all that.

"I guess that's true..."

Fwumping is okay, Bon will just rest a hand on her head.

"Besides, by the time you become a mother, you'll be much older and more patient."

Pet her, it'll make her feel better.

"I can't ever imagine me bein' patient."

Good, because that's totally what he's doing.

"You're already more patient now then you were back when we first met."
