[Call it a strange sort of intuition, but when more locations were found out on the Skyway, Zayna couldn't help but feel like that was the end of it. Maybe not for good, but it just seemed sort of... final, the way things were arriving.

She didn't really speak this thought aloud to anyone but Zulf and her father, showing the new sketches to the residents of the Bastion once more without too much insight in to what was on her mind.]

Even if nothing else bad happens, and I live a long life, that's still what, sixty more years? Seventy? It's a lot less than what you'll get, regardless of what happens.

So, you gotta promise me. When I'm gone, you gotta move on.

[After a second or so he hastily adds a bit more to the end of that.]

It doesn't have to be right away, but eventually.

[That noise she's making isn't a happy one, and if she could cling any tighter without hurting him, she would.

They're only sixteen, and she's already had to come to terms with knowing that she'll outlive her friends. Outlive almost everyone that's survived this long.

The idea of spending so much of her life with Ryuuji only to have to spend the rest of it without him is damn near physically painful.]

Are you askin' me to just move on or... are you askin' me to find some one else when you're gone?

Whichever one, as long as you don't stagnate.

[There's another pause, and he looks down before speaking again.]

Dad's temple, it wasn't very popular, because of the Blue Night. But there were still people who called on Dad, and the Shima family, and the others too, to do rites for the dead. I never had to help, but I saw them, sometimes.

Sometimes a husband died, and the wife let the grief eat her alive. Within a couple months we'd be back doing rites for her. Or sometimes a kid died young, and the parents never recovered, and became hollow shells that vaguely resembled people. It was horrible to see.

Don't let that happen to you. Whether it means being by yourself, or finding someone new, don't become hollow like that.

[He had mentioned shortly after Night's death that he had helped his father with that sort of thing, which was why he had helped with her funereal at all. But his explanation had been fairly short back then, both of them dealing with the loss of a friend and Rin still injured and recovering as she was.

Hearing all that from him... it only twisted that pain in her chest further.

She hadn't stopped moving forward when Shiro had died. Bon was asking her to do the same when the time came for him to go, regardless of how many years from now it might be.

She sniffled quietly against his arm, tail coming to curl around both of them from her back.]

... I promise. But... you gotta know that if I'm gonna make a family with anyone it's gonna be you.

[Okay, that much he can agree to, for now. If things do go sour between them later, or if the worst happens, they can deal with it then.

He's still sure that at some point in the future, even after he's long gone, Rin will find someone else to love. And he's okay with that, really. It's just one of the things that humans who love half-demons have to deal with. But he won't say that now.]

But not for a while yet. Neither of us are ready now.

[They can barely keep themselves alive, they couldn't hope to raise a kid like this. Even if the world hadn't been ripped to pieces, they're still kids themselves.]

[She's not so sure about that herself. She has enough trouble connecting with people as it is, and she's too young to consider that her own future self might be a little bit better socially.

For now all she cares about is how much she loves Bon, and how much she wants to stay with him as long as she possibly can.]

He might be getting up on his heckles a bit there. Because of all the things to think of right then, that was not one of the things he needed.]

I already told you, we're too young for that!

[But he's not thinking about depressing things anymore!

Rin's tail starts wagging, giving him a toothy grin.]

We're sixteen!

That's still too young.

[It does get him to stop thinking about depressing things, for the time being. But embarrassing the boy might not be the best way to get him to stop being depressed.]

I don't think it is...

[Sorry Bon, your girlfriend is pretty set on this now.]

C'mon you can't tell me you're not even a little curious, right?

[Asking him about this when he is already emotionally compromised is not a good idea, Rin.]

A little? But- look, do we have to talk about this right now? It's been a long day.

[Sir "dodging the question" strikes again.]

[There was a pout then, and she almost pushed the issue, but her own exhaustion betrayed her with a giant, very loud, very toothy yawn.]

For now, they can stay there, leaning against each other under the blanket that Rin had brought with her.]
