[Day 190] I work until it's late [CLOSED]

What: So Bon went a little trigger happy yesterday with a Bazooka courtesy of the other Okumura. Guess who gets frequent migraines even without repeated concussive explosions? Guess who has a migraine today? And guess who gets to take care of him?

Warnings: Again, Rin is a warning unto herself. Also for Yukio's sake: likely chance of non violent face contact.

[Rin getting up before Bon was a fairly common thing anymore, if only because her duties at the kitchen usually required some degree of "being awake before most everyone else". She hadn't quite mastered Yukio's skill at only functioning on four hours of sleep, but she had managed to drop down from her usual 11-12 to something closer to 6. Zulf had been busy with mapping with Zayna (and probably dealing with a good deal of his own grief given what was happening with those locations) and Mireielle was spending most of her time with her newborn, so Rin had silently taken up the slack in the kitchen.

Not exactly the best way to spend a whole lot of time with one's boyfriend, but she justified it by saying that it "kept her out of trouble".

Ironic, considering just the day before Bon and Yukio had decided target practice with high explosives in the Dragonfield was a good idea.

Rin had let them go about it after a bit of yelling, but as she was about to find out, Bon wound up paying for it not in injury but in a massive migraine.

Of course Rin didn't know this when she had gotten up before him and gone to work. It wasn't until later when she realized he hadn't come down for breakfast that she hurried back to the apartment after cleaning up.

The apartment was quiet, as quiet as if no one was home, but she hadn't seen him anywhere else on her way there. Moving towards the slightly cracked door of the bedroom, she peeked her head in and called out.]

[They're both strange.

But Rin likes hearing it just as much as he's liking saying it apparently. Her tail goes again, and she's back to making embarrassed noises that aren't entirely embarrassed because damn it she actually wants to hear things like that!

Just as it makes her seem more like a normal girl to Bon, it makes her feel like one, too. And that's a rare treat for her indeed.

It takes her a second to get some semblance of calm back long enough to mutter something back in return.]

W-well... I think you're really amazin', too. And pretty damn hot...

[kyotoprincess]

[He had a feeling she was going to say that, but he still feels a bit warm in the face when he hears it. Compliments like that are not ones he usually gets, so it's new to him too.

But he likes it. He likes how normal it is, to care about someone and be cared for in return.]

Yeah, well, I guess we go together pretty well then, huh?

[hellpyre]

[That pulled her out of hiding, face still red but a big dopey smile to go with it.]

Yeah. I think we do.

[Perfect moment to cuddle up more and drape her tail over him.]

Y'feelin' any better?

Much better, thank you.

[It still hurts, but it's a manageable pain. He's learned to work with small levels of pain, since headaches and migraines are a constant problem for him.]

...I'm not so sure I want to get up, though. The light might make it come back.

[His hand might be moving down a bit to play with the fur on Rin's tail. That always seems to make her content.]

[Well it does a little more than that, but for the moment she's just going to continue with that purring noise while nuzzling against his chest. She does like that, yes.]

We can stay here. I let Colin take over the kitchen anyway. He's been wantin' to upgrade it for me for a while now.

[And really she needs a break from work.]

Mmn.

[Bon approves. But that doesn't solve the problem of what they should actually do, since Bon isn't really tired, but at the same time he wants to stay hiding in the dark.]

Tell me about your home, growing up.

[hellpyre]

Hm? Oh... uhm. Well... you saw the church, remember?

[When they went out to the section of True Cross that was out on the Skyway.]

It wasn't just Yukio, Dad and I there. There were other priests... I think Dad maybe trained them or somethin'. I didn't really think about it until recently but they were my family too, y'know?

[kyotoprincess]

[He remembers the ash statues, he figured they were people important to Rin.]

He was a teacher, so he probably trained a lot of exorcists. I know he trained all of Renzo's brothers and sisters.

[hellpyre]

[She had muttered their names when they were found, but beyond that and some lingering upset after the fact she had barely spoken of them.]

Mn. I... didn't know. That he was an exorcist growin' up. Like an actual exorcist. I mean he'd give people charms and stuff to "keep bad spirits away" and he'd leave for long periods of time for reasons I didn't know about, but when he mentioned any of it I just blew it off as a buncha fake stuff he'd tell people to make them feel better 'bout bad things.

"Hard to fight against things that don't exist," I'd tell him and he'd just laugh at me and say demons sure did exist.

[She shakes her head sadly.]

He wasn't hidin' the truth from me, I just didn't believe him.

[So you can imagine her shock when she found out the truth after all, and learned even later still that he was the Paladin to boot.]

[See, Bon really admires Rin's father, even if he had never met the guy. His story has long outlived him, and it's an admirable one. Mastering all five branches of exorcism, becoming one of the youngest paladins ever...it was all stuff that motivated Bon to be a better person too.

So hearing that Rin didn't know about all that, that's strange to him.]

But Yukio's been an exorcist for years, hasn't he? And you didn't know, even about him?

[hellpyre]

See, that? That they kept from me. I think... they had to. One, if I'd believed it at all, I woulda been worried constantly and probably done somethin' stupid to try and help and just been in the way. And, two...

Well... I couldn't see demons then. My powers were sealed, and so was everythin' else. Yuki... just got the bad luck of a demon wound from me when we were born.

[kyotoprincess]

...just like Renzou, then.

[Bon never knew exactly when it happened, but at some point when they were all kids he had gotten a mashou. He hadn't even realized it until years later, when Renzou had said something about one of the Hojo family's demon snakes. Snakes which Bon and Koneko had been unable to see, up until they started at the academy.]

Do you regret it? Not knowing, I mean.

[hellpyre]

Yeah...

[Rin goes quiet at that, shifting against him again.]

I-- ... at first... yeah. Yeah, I did. I hated it. I was so pissed. I was so angry at Yuki for not sayin' anythin' before then. I was angry at the old man for keepin' so much from me. I was just...

Just really angry.

But if it hadn't been that way, I don't think I'd ever have met you. And everyone else. You--... all of you were the first friends I'd ever made. Ever.

I don't regret that. Not one bit.

[kyotoprincess]

[...Oh Rin.

Bon stays quiet for a long time, first because he's listening to her, and then because he can't think of anything to say to make her feel better. So instead he just hugs her, holding her against him for a bit.

But eventually he does speak, after he's had time to think.]

I'm glad too. That I met you, I mean. Even before we started dating, you- the 'you' from my world, and I guess you did the same for the 'me' from your world- you changed me. For the better.

[He never would have forgiven his dad, if not for Rin.]

[Rin remembers that. She felt guilty later that she was pushing her own issues with what had happened to Shiro on to Bon, but knowing it had helped...

That made the whole thing worth it.]

I'm really glad to hear that, Ryuuji...

[Bon just smiles, and he leaves it like that. They've kind of reached the point in their relationship where they can just lay there and not talk for a while without feeling uncomfortable, so Bon is going to do just that. He's a little tired anyway, so napping might be a good idea too.]

[hellpyre]

[Napping does sound like a good idea.

And because Rin is already halfway there.

Given that, and the silence, it doesn't take much to doze off in his arms a few minutes later.]
