[Day 153] I understood the meaning of love... [OPEN]
Who: Rin and YOU!
Open: Open
When: 153, afternoon
Where: The Gazebo
What: The past few days have been difficult, but Rin is in a surprisingly good mood today. Apparently that's enough to warrant randomly singing??
Format: Starting in action, but I'll folow
Warnings: Rin being Rin is a given by now.
[The past few days had been a whirlwind of emotion. Some good, some bad, but all of it actually fairly exhausting. In it, though, Rin had gotten out some much needed things that had been bottling up for some time, and in a stark contrast to the anger that had nearly destroyed the kitchen, she found herself in a surprisingly good mood this day.
Like. Really good mood.
Good enough to apparently sing. Which she didn't do very often at all. Sometimes she could be caught humming a song while working, but actually singing something?
Well, she did used to be in the church choir growing up, so it wasn't that far fetched of an idea. But it had been years since then, and her voice was a little out of practice.
Still, something about that good mood compelled her to make her way over to the gazebo where the piano was. She couldn't play (Yuki could, but even she had fallen out of practice with that in recent years, too) but she knew enough to strike a note and start from there. She wasn't singing to anyone in particular, and the song that came out of here surprisingly wasn't a church hymn.]
Kuon no shijima yagate sora ni
aoku aoku tokete nijinde
mahiru no tsuki no usui kage wa
sugu ni sugu ni mirai wo yobu...
[It didn't quite sound the same without some accompaniment, but she still got rather in to it. Enough that she probably wouldn't notice if some one stopped to listen...]

I'm not sure I understand what you're working towards. As soon as I can, I'm heading back out there to look for survivors.
[She's really still hoping to find someone she knows. She had the help of a dragon getting here, so it makes sense that she'd be the first one. There could still be others.]
no subject
Instead she shifts on her feet a bit, before answering.]
Just... surviving. That's it. We're lookin' for things called Cores, they give power to this place. Enough of 'em, we might not even need to hunt around for supplies anymore.
[She lets out a sigh, kicking a foot at the wood of the gazebo gently.]
What else can we do? If we give up now then everythin' we've done will be for nothin'.
no subject
[She's sure her uncle would have something encouraging to say in this situation, about how if they just stick together and keep trying, they might find something unexpected. But her uncle isn't here, and without him to say it in that wise and sometimes infuriating way of his, the thought feels empty.
Still, whether or not there's anything more to work towards than survival, she's not going to let this beat her.]

[Rin pushed off the piano, crossing the gazebo to the stairs. Determination was a good thing to have in the Bastion.]
Things are nice right now, but it ain't always like that. And there's a lotta hard work to be done still.
no subject
[Okay, she may be watching that tail a little bit. Should it look that natural on a person?]
Guess it keeps your mind off things, too.
no subject
[Maybe in not the healthiest of ways, but it's better than wallowing in sorrow. Even Rin knows that, for how much she tends to mope around this place.]
no subject
[The apology isn't completely sincere. Part of her still feels like anyone being happy in this situation is an audacity, that it's the wrong attitude to have. But she also knows she's no authority on how to deal with things.]
no subject
But she won't hold it against Zuko. She shrugs, tail giving another twitch thoughtfully.]
Don't sweat it. I've had worse days. Y'hungry at all?
no subject
Why?
no subject
[Whoops there goes Rin's ego all over the place.]
C'mon. The kitchen is over this way.
no subject
[Zuko is astounded by your modesty. Of course, with the number of people in this place it just might be true.
Anyway she's at least got a pretty good chance of being a better cook than Zuko, so she'll go ahead and follow.]
no subject
Really!
[And she's just going to bounce ahead of Zuko, tail wagging as she leads her the distance across the Bastion to the Distillery]
no subject
She's silent all the way to the distillery, where she finally gives in to curiosity.]
...does everyone have a tail where you come from?
no subject
Rin opens the door, turning around when Zuko asks that question.]
Oh uh. No. Just some people.
no subject
[Yeah, Zuko is still assuming there is a race of tailed humans in Rin's world.]
It's... not as strange as I would've thought.
no subject
[Her tail even gives a little wave at that before she moves in to the kitchen to get her apron on and start digging out something to eat for Zuko.
The Distillery proper held most of the tables for eating at, but the kitchen itself did have two wooden ones set up in a section of it. It was a bit messy with various supplies, sacks and baskets set on it, but there was enough room to sit down at least.]
no subject
[She wonders if Aang's lemur constantly riding around on people has anything to do with it. Another thing she's probably never going to see again.
Zuko eases herself into a chair at one of the tables. It's a far cry from eating at the royal palace, but still more comfortable than a lot of her other dining experiences. Rin certainly seems at ease in it.]
no subject
Well at least until she remembered that she never introduced herself.]
... oh. Uhm. Heh, sorry. I didn't get your name. I'm Rin.
no subject
[She nearly adds her title, but stops herself. She'd been so proud before coming here to have reclaimed it, and now it's completely meaningless.]
Just Zuko.
no subject
Or never had them to begin with.]
'kay. Zuko. M'family name is Okumura, but everyone just calls me Rin.
[Except Kaoru and Colin but they're exceptions to the general rule.]
no subject
[It's a pretty normal-sounding name anyhow.
Wait. Manners.]
Nice to meet you.
no subject
Mhm!
[And back to making food.]
So uh. We don't got a whole lot here, but if there's anythin' you don't like lemmie know.
no subject
[They may not even know the same kinds of foods for her to be able to tell Rin what she doesn't like. She certainly hasn't recognized any of the plants or animals around here. She actually saw some sort of pastry-bearing tree this morning.]
no subject
[At least she's not like a certain pompous composer who complains at every turn in spite of Rin insisting that there really is nothing else.
And the doughnut tree is... ... a fucking doughnut tree. She has no idea what Aoi was thinking, she could have just asked Rin to make pastries instead of spending shards on a tree.
But that's neither here nor there.]
Stew is usually a pretty good thing to fall back on. Y'can just pick around anythin' in it you don't wind up likin'.
no subject
[Never mind that mediocre stew is about the pinnacle of Zuko's cooking ability.]
