[Day 153] I understood the meaning of love... [OPEN]

What: The past few days have been difficult, but Rin is in a surprisingly good mood today. Apparently that's enough to warrant randomly singing??

Warnings: Rin being Rin is a given by now.

[The past few days had been a whirlwind of emotion. Some good, some bad, but all of it actually fairly exhausting. In it, though, Rin had gotten out some much needed things that had been bottling up for some time, and in a stark contrast to the anger that had nearly destroyed the kitchen, she found herself in a surprisingly good mood this day.

Like. Really good mood.

Good enough to apparently sing. Which she didn't do very often at all. Sometimes she could be caught humming a song while working, but actually singing something?

Well, she did used to be in the church choir growing up, so it wasn't that far fetched of an idea. But it had been years since then, and her voice was a little out of practice.

Still, something about that good mood compelled her to make her way over to the gazebo where the piano was. She couldn't play (Yuki could, but even she had fallen out of practice with that in recent years, too) but she knew enough to strike a note and start from there. She wasn't singing to anyone in particular, and the song that came out of here surprisingly wasn't a church hymn.]

[It didn't quite sound the same without some accompaniment, but she still got rather in to it. Enough that she probably wouldn't notice if some one stopped to listen...]

But she won't hold it against Zuko. She shrugs, tail giving another twitch thoughtfully.]

Don't sweat it. I've had worse days. Y'hungry at all?

Well you just happened to meet the best damn cook in the Bastion!

[Whoops there goes Rin's ego all over the place.]

C'mon. The kitchen is over this way.

[Zuko is astounded by your modesty. Of course, with the number of people in this place it just might be true.

Anyway she's at least got a pretty good chance of being a better cook than Zuko, so she'll go ahead and follow.]

Mmm... I think it's about finding freedom... or somethin' like that!

[I know, it's just so amazing how modest Rin is.]

Really!

[And she's just going to bounce ahead of Zuko, tail wagging as she leads her the distance across the Bastion to the Distillery]

[Zuko is not anywhere near bouncy. In fact her movements still seem a little stiff if Rin were to notice.

She's silent all the way to the distillery, where she finally gives in to curiosity.]

...does everyone have a tail where you come from?

[Someone does stop to listen, and Toshiko even leans against one of the gazebo supports, watching her silently.]

[ She was taking a walk with Zebstrika when she heard the singing, and she had to come over and see what the source of it was. Hilda led Zebstrika in the direction of the Gazebo and finally came across ... well, Rin.

She and Rin hadn't really talked much, and they hadn't really interacted since they went together to retrieve Pyth for the festival. She moved over closer. ]

You have a nice singing voice!

[ She's leaning against the side of the Gazebo now, a huge smile on her faze. Zebstrika snorted and looked away. It's not like she wanted to acknowledge that you had a nice singing voice, gosh. ]

Well I don't see any signs of rusting.

[Jazz walks over to the stairs to meet Rin half way.]

It's nice to have time to do things like that, isn't it?

[Don't mind her having way too much energy for her own good.

Rin opens the door, turning around when Zuko asks that question.]

Oh uh. No. Just some people.

Huh.

[Yeah, Zuko is still assuming there is a race of tailed humans in Rin's world.]

It's... not as strange as I would've thought.

[Since Toshiko remains quiet, Rin doesn't notice her until she's finished with the song.]

Oh. Uh. Hi...

[Rin blinked a few times at the voice, having a moment of blank memory before recalling that this was one of the people that had helped her with the Pyth retrieval. The... zebra thing was different, but okay what wasn't here.

Her face goes a bit pink, but she smiles anyway.]

[Were this anything else, Rin would have been taking those compliments and running with them, but really all she can do is turn a bit pink and nod.]

A little. I'm usually over at the kitchen workin' though. Not that I mind it - I feel most at home there anyway.

No problem! My singing voice isn't that great, so I have a lot of respect for those who can sing really well.

[ Like Jigglypuffs. Not that she'd ever stayed awake long enough to hear one complete a song.

.... this was awkward, though. She shifts a little where she's standing, before standing on her tippy toes and offering a hand over the top of the wall of the Gazebo. She's so tiny. ]

I'm Hilda, and this ...

[ She gestures with her head. ]

This is Zebstrika. I remember we went together to go get Pyth, but we haven't really ... talked, or anything.

[She smiles a little.]

Hey. You've got a nice voice.

... Oh... Is it in a language you don't know?

Yeah it doesn't look too weird does it?

[Her tail even gives a little wave at that before she moves in to the kitchen to get her apron on and start digging out something to eat for Zuko.

The Distillery proper held most of the tables for eating at, but the kitchen itself did have two wooden ones set up in a section of it. It was a bit messy with various supplies, sacks and baskets set on it, but there was enough room to sit down at least.]

Eh... I just spent a lotta time in the church choir when I was really little. It doesn't really mean much. I know people that can sing way better'n me.

[Smiling, she takes Hilda's hand over the wall of the gazebo.]

Rin. That's another... Pokemon, right? Like the big flamin' guy?

[Whoops awkward.]

Eheh... th-thanks. Wasn't really expectin' anyone to listen.

No, it's Japanese. It's just sort of... uhm... like the meaning isn't direct in the words, I guess? Kinda like poetry. Or somethin'.

[Rin you are bad at this.]

Still, you sing way better than I do.

[ She retracts her hand as soon as they shake, shaking her arm out a bit. It was mildly uncomfortable due to the gazebo ... she brightens at the mention of Pokemon, though, and nods. ]

Yeah! I have five of them with me. Technically six now, but ... one of them is still an egg and hasn't hatched yet.

[ Zorua's egg was safely at home, wrapped in a blanket. ]

... Would you like to meet the rest of my team?

[You can come in here, Hilda. There's nothing preventing you from it.]

Wow. You just... got some random creatures hangin' around you? That's cool. Kinda reminds me of tamers back home.

... uh. Yeah. Sure.
