Day 141 | Open (BACKDATED)
Who: Colin, anyone who wants to help or see the new building.
Open: Open
When: Day 141, all day. (Backdated)
Where: Northwestern Bastion, at the brand new workshop.
What: Moving in and getting to work!
Format Can match.
Warnings: Typical Colin Warning, he may say something horribly stupid or offensive without realizing it.
It had been less than thirty days since Colin arrived in the Bastion, barely a flash to his perception of time. And yet, here he was with a large, well-equipped workshop. Three stories, with a vehicle bay, workspace aplenty, a clean room, a chemical lab, and large residence. Getting this place built up had been done quickly even by his reckoning, though it still needed a lot of work to be up to his technological standards.
He still wasn't going to trust the Monument with that most delicate of work, but otherwise it was certainly coming in handy. From here on, he'd be using it less for material objects and more to enhance his amulet. This workshop would let him build his gear back up with his own two hands, and he'd be able to trust the stuff completely. Furthermore, it would offer a significant boost to the manufacturing ability of this small pocket of civilization.
Early in the morning, the workshop would be filled with noise as Colin began testing equipment. After that, Colin would be spending much of the day moving salvage out of his apartment, and all of the other places that he'd been stashing it over the past month. He had a brand new storage room that he had to fill.

[Zulf ventures by sometime in the morning, cautious as he peers inside. He's never exactly been very technologically minded, but he's pretty sure this is some Mancer-level stuff right here.]
no subject
[And when Zulf comes in, he'll see Colin sitting at a work bench, tinkering with the one of the lasers to better collimate the beam. Not even three hours into his new workshop, and he's already making sure the technology is up to his standard.]
no subject
Good morning. [At least, it seems like morning.] I see you've been busy. We haven't met- my name is Zulf, of the Ura. It's a pleasure.
no subject
[Colin's bright eyed and bushy-tailed, but it takes a moment for him to look up.]
Oh, you're one of the people who came in last week?
Nice to meet you, Zulf! Colin Starfury, of the Corsicans.
[He pushes the laser aside for the moment, he can always come back to it later. He's got all the time in the world.]

Please, come in, come in. The first and second floors of this place are open to everyone!
[Colin's more than happy to have visitors. If nothing else, it gives him an opportunity to learn more about this world, and he wants to refine that theory of his with more information...]
no subject
[Well, it's rude to refuse an invitation. Zulf comes inside, glancing at the various things about and clearly not making heads or tails of them. He was raised by quite an intelligent man, but none of his lessons ever really included technology on this level.]

It's probably feeding on some sort of fuel in the worlds that it's ripping across, letting it propogate further. What that fuel might be? I have no idea.
It could also just be a massive tear that won't grow, but the only time I've ever heard of something damaging multiple world across space and time like that... there were two demi-god-level entities involved, and the hellmouth they opened still hasn't been closed.
no subject
[That is the sound of someone who has just realized he is completely out of his depth in this conversation. Zulf tries to mentally backtrack and hope he finds some manner of sense to make out of all of this.]
I'm afraid this isn't something I'm very experienced with... Could the "fuel" be memories or something like that? The Cores are somewhat similar in that regard.
no subject
[He gives a warm smile.]
These reactions are still largely a mystery. But yes, mental processes have been known to feed certain things. I.... hmm, I'll need to scan shards and cores with my medical systems, I think. Interesting thought.
But that's a topic for another time, we don't need to entertain my thought experiments. What brings you by? Curious about the new building?
no subject
That's right. I... knew someone who had a part in building the Bastion, but I didn't know it could do so much.
no subject
It's truly a piece of work, and I regret that I likely won't get to meet whoever built it.
no subject
[Zulf is amazed the old coot survived the Calamity the first time around to be honest.]
I don't want to break the news to my friend, Zia... But I imagine she might suspect anyway.

[Looks like there's something metal crunched up in his large claws...]
Drem, Colin. I found something I believe would be of interest to you.
no subject
[Yes, Colin's hauling yet another box of stuff from the scrap yard. How many of these does he have? How many trips did he make out there in the first place?]
What have you got there?
[Big and metal is ALWAYS something interesting! And you better believe that his interest is piqued!]
no subject
[Possibly because he crumpled it with his talons. Listen... shit happens.]
[Paarthurnax moves carefully off of his prize, revealing it. It appears to be a turret of some kind, once you get past all the parts of it that are crumpled and bent. There's a round top to it, and what appears to be a crafted animals head of some sort with an opening in its mouth.]
no subject
[That's not surprise. That's excitement!]
I've been wanting to get to one of these few two weeks now! Ever since I saw one out there at the wall!
[He drops his box of scrap unceremoniously and rushes over to the crushed wreckage. The damage doesn't both him, he figured the odds of taking one of these intact would be less than five percent even if he were the only one doing the job.]
The frame's probably taken the most damage, it's the insides I want to see... The more I can understand how Caledonian technology works, the more likely I'll be able to actually integrate it with my own stuff. And get some defenses built here that we can actually keep maintained without too much trouble.
no subject
[But then, Alduin wouldn't be Alduin if he hadn't. Paarthurnax watches Colin's excitement curiously, doing his best to keep up with this train of thought.]
I will be certain to keep an eye out for more of them, then. I will do my best to be more... delicate. [ha ha ha haaaaaa] It would be good to keep this place well protected.

That doesn't surprise me. About the only fire I've seen that can give a dragon pause is Plasma. Uh... think sun's fire. And as for these things, don't worry about bringing them in without damage, I'd rather have the parts than the final product. Having it intact would help, but it's completely unnecessary.
[He looks up at Paarth and gives him a wide smile, before he lowers his head to resume inspecting the turret. Gotta make sure that barrel's clear before we try moving it further...]
no subject
Even myths advise against meddling with the strength of the sun.
[Most of the damage on the turrent is in its middle with some at the bottom considering Paarthuranx ended up ripping it from where it was stationed. The top portion with the barrel is in considerably better conditioner. No fire spewing- Paarthurnax must have damaged whatever set it off.]
no subject
[He really, REALLY wants to go into a long schpiel about harnessing solar power, but that would go right over Paarth's head... Ah well, work, work, work!]
Barrel's clear, firing mechanism has probably been damaged, but a lot of the inner workings seem to be more or less intact. Most of the damage seems to the base, and extending into the superstructure. Interesting.. safe to move, I think.
Can you follow me with it, over to the vehicle bay? I have things over there that'll help me move it where it needs to go inside.
no subject
[Once Colin moves back enough, Paarthurnax makes his way closer until he can close his claws over the turret once more. After visiting the Observatory, he has a guess to what the vehicle bay is but he'll wait until Colin starts moving before he follows.]
no subject
[Colin snatches up the box he was carrying and then he sprints over to the workshop. The vehicle bay isn't easy to miss, it's got an absolutely huge retractable doorway. Colin stops in front of it, sets down the box, and waves Paarth over.]
Right here is good!

Have there been any other devices on the Skyway you have wished to study more? I will watch for them.
no subject
The wall seems to have the biggest cluster of these things that we've found so far, but I'm sure there's more out there.
If anything inanimate suddenly starts shooting at you? I want to see it.
[He's walking around the turret again, studying it, and imagining how he's going to get it into the workshop. It won't be hard, but it will need some tools.]
