Day 126 - Action || Juicy!
Who: Colin and anyone who likes fruit
Open: Open
When: Day 126
Where: The Distillery
What: Colin's got fruit, who wants some?
Format Action
Warnings: Well, it's this guy, so a warning for social-shenanigans seems prudent.
[It's been a long, but very productive day for Mr. Starfury. He's spent all morning out at the farm, tending to his new plants. The vines had a good deal of fruit when they arrived, and he busily started harvesting the ripe stuff. Next came the cleaning, and the peeling.
The result? There's a table set up in the distillery with several platters of fruit. Some of it's whole fruit, some of it's sliced, some of it's peeled. Whatever the case, it's there for the taking.
Colin's sitting nearby, with a cup of juice, which he appears to be savoring while he's off in his own little world. If you wanna talk to him, he's there. If you don't, he's not going to be put out. This fruit's here for everyone, all he wants are the seeds. He's not going to make anyone do anything for it, just enjoy it.
And Paarthurnax, he isn't overlooking you, but the fruit's a little small for you. Part of what he's doing is working out the scale to make something you can enjoy.]

[Hilda may have been "one of the good ones" in N's mind, but she's still a trainer.]
If you think that's what's best for him, I will do what I can.
no subject
You just gotta do what you think is best for him. Do right by the little guy, and that's all you've gotta do.

[N finally decides to take a look at that odd fruit that Swablu was so interested in. He snags a slice and carefully tries a small bite of it, not sure if he's going to enjoy it at all since he's a terribly picky eater.
But to him it's not bad. Sweeter than he's used to but he kind of likes it that way.
He attempts to eat the rest of it but Swablu decides having it anywhere near him is invitation to snatch it from N's hand, nearly taking off a finger in the process.]
Ah--! Swablu.
[Ow. That actually hurt. :c]

He is DEFINITELY a kid, he doesn't know what boundaries and personal space are yet. ... Or if he does, he doesn't yet respect them.
I'd give him a light bop for that, but that's just what I'd do.
... I suspect he'd probably bite me if I tried, too.
[Colin gives N a sympathetic grin at that.]
no subject
It would be easier if we could understand one another already. Scolding him will do nothing so long as he's not old enough to grasp what I'm telling him.

[Colin wracks his brain for a moment, his face actually contorting as he tries to find the words. He huffs in irritation.]
I wish I could show you the clip I have queued up at the moment.
Look at it this way. On Fieras, packs of Strakha are known to be fiercely loyal and protective of their family units. But their young are known to be very mischievous, and play rough. When they bite the adults in the pack, the adults whallop them hard.
They only do it once, and they only do it when the young bite. It's a corrective measure, it teaches the youngster that it's not okay to bite their parents.
[He huffs again]
I can't explain it well, it's a social thing. It's... just because you discipline someone doesn't mean you don't care for them.
On the Nova, when I chew someone out for making a mistake, it's not 'cause I don't like them. It's because they're doing something dangerous that they shouldn't be doing, and I don't want them or anyone else hurt.
no subject
I'm not really sure if I'd be able to do that...
no subject
I can appreciate that, I really can. Just...
Here, gimme that.
[Colin shifts position and reaches into his pants pocket, producing his medkit. He removes the dermal regenerator from it, and he holds his hand out to N expectantly.]
If you can't raise him to have manners, you're going to get bitten a lot more. And when he's bigger, do you think he'll actually listen if he's been getting away with stuff all his life until then?
no subject
He held his hand out, remaining quiet.]
no subject
He's not being bad, you don't have to punish him.
You just need to show him that what he's doing isn't right. He doesn't know any better, that's all. Nobody else can tell you how to do that, it's up to you. That's what being a parent's about.
But if you need some help, I bet Hilda could probably give you a few pointers.
no subject
I suppose she could, yes...
no subject
There you go.
So what're you thinking?
no subject
Aside from the obvious... I was realizing how strange it is to live in a world where I'm not surrounded by the thoughts of Pokemon.
no subject
I cannot recall the last time I've been on a world that didn't have some sort of comm network. It's WAY too quiet here for my liking.
The lack of databases and archives is driving me nuts, too... but fortunately I have my own to keep me busy.
no subject
[He gives a wistful smile at that, recalling all the conversations they had in Vatheon were he'd insist he was nothing to be chased after, and she would insist the exact opposite.]
For me, listening to the hearts of Pokemon was the only conversation I needed for most of my life. Hilda changed that, obviously... but I still took comfort in being able to be in their company. Even in Vatheon there were so many more because of the number of trainers that place had managed to pull in.
no subject
I don't know if this is something you'd go for or not, but supposedly the monument can populate this place with wildlife from other worlds. I think it could do the same with Pokemon? I'd have to check with Nathan or someone...

[Colin reaches up to Swable, rubbing his hand over the dragon-bird's head.]
You spoke of Swablu like a species. I can't see how it would be any different than bringing in a pack of Kooshi or a herd of Deer.
no subject
I suppose that's true. Wild Pokemon are fairly common place, after all.
no subject
Reach out, try new things. Even if you burn your hand, you've still learned something.
[Colin smiles and continues to pet Swablu gently.]

[He has reservations about bringing any Pokemon, wild or not, to a place like Bastion. Eventually he might do it anyway in hopes that he can at least introduce some that would be capable of helping in other ways around the Bastion, but until then it's merely an idea at the back of his mind now.]
