[ It'd taken about a day before Kuro was willing to part from his master-turned-mistress. When it seemed like nothing dramatic was going to swoop in and steal Rin away from him, he finally did what all cats had to do eventually. It was time to explore, so he's creeping mostly around the apartments and the Bastion overall. He's taken the time to mark some territory as well, just as a matter of principle.

If he sees anyone out and about, he'll wander over to investigate them. Maybe someone will have a snack for him. It never hurt to be an optimist. ]

[ There's no hesitation from Kuro when he hears his name being called. Rin and food went hand-in-hand, and that's something he's extremely familiar with. Any changes between universes wouldn't affect that.

He doesn't mind the interruption since he could always mark Bon's door as part of his territory later.

(It was a matter of principle.)

[ It was a matter between men. Rin wouldn't understand the importance of this.

Great! He hops up to perch on her shoulder, clearly pleased by this turn of events.

Rin's cooking is the best! ]

I hope this is okay. We don't got the best supplies here, but we're gettin' better with that every day. C'mon.

[Rin is used to shoulder-cat, so she just straightens up from where she crouched to get him in order to head back to the kitchen.]

[ Then it's even more lucky you did the cooking. Is it meat? I want lots of meat, please!

Shoulder-cat is demanding, too, apparently. ]

Sorry... is fish okay? We're still workin' on gettin' new meat here so we wound up curin' and savin' most of what was left of the meat last month.

[Yes but Kuro being demanding is nothing new.]

[ I like fish, too.

But still...

But we should go out and find a cow. The spirits of that broken place can't have eaten all of them.

That is entirely unreasonable. ]

I wish I could say that was true, but everythin' livin' that was outside the Bastion when the Calamity hit turned in to those statues...

[ That can't be true!

And not just because it dashes his hopes of cows.

Not everyone could be like that! We weren't! ]

I know, but I'unno why we were saved...

[Trust her, Kuro. She doesn't like it any more than you do.]

[ He's got a bit more fussing to do before he settles back down.

I won't accept it! We'll find more humans out there and cows, too. I'll show you. ]

[Rin stopped walking, blinking a few times before taking Kuro off her shoulder to hold him in front of her. She looked... worried. Almost brokenly so. Something in her gaze was different. Haunted. Fearful? Not quite, but it was something she could easily be pushed in to if things turned the wrong way.

But whatever was on her mind, she didn't voice it, and the expression was quickly pushed away for a smile.]

Yeah. 'course we will.
