Day 122: Rough Awakenings
Who: Ippo and anyone who wants to visit
When: Day 122
Where: The Hospital
What: The Sleeper has awakened and needs a little help getting back up on his feet
Format: Any
Warnings: Hospital Things, a little blood, and maybe some sad talks
[The scene in his mind kept replaying over and over and over, as if some cruel tormentor had strapped him into a chair and was forcing him to rewatch one of the most painful experiences of his life while he was completely separated from it; only able to watch helplessly as he was impaled by Rin and had his face ground into the dirt repeatedly. Each time he felt himself slip a little further away, more and more until he was simply ready to close his eyes to escape his torment and never open them again; but it was then he heard a voice in the back of his head. It was small at first, but eventually he could make out Coach Kamogawa's stern voice, yelling at him to yell up and feeling the sting of his hand on his back. Then came Kimura, Aoki, Takamura, even Miyata joined in the rising chant for him to stand up.
Then his other friends from the Bastion joined in, Seimei, Night, Alucard...and Rin; the chorus of voices had reached a pitch in his mind where everything else was blocked out, and then his eyes opened now glowing a fierce green. His teeth and fists clenched in unison as his body sidestepped the oncoming sword that was to impale him again and his body coiled like an angry cobra as he prepared to strike the fake Rin; her smug look now contorting into something akin to fear.]
This isn't real...you're not real..NONE OF THIS REAL!!!
[He yelled at the top of his lungs as he swung his fist in a heavy arch, his gauntlet screaming towards Fake Rin's face with enough force to break down a brick wall and just as it made contact...he woke with a start. His eyes shot open and the first thing he noticed was the distinct sound of a fast paced beeping which was slowly starting to level out; or rather the first thing he noticed as that he had something shoved down his throat which he quickly pulled out as he began coughing violently. Once he pulled himself under control, he looked around slightly as his eyes adjusted to the light of the room as he tried to figure out just where on earth he was; he had been in Jawson Bog last he remembered...and now...was this the hospital? Had he somehow gotten back to the Bastion?
There were more questions than answers at the moment...but he was in a warm bed and there didn't seem to be anything around that was going to cause him harm; so he simply leaned back into his bed and continued to let his eyes adjust. Hopefully someone would be around to explain the situation to him soon...that or he'd have the strength to get out and move on his own; either way, it was just a waiting game for now.]

[Ippo sighed and let his gaze fall onto the bedsheets covering his legs; he knew that trying to keep his feelings inside would only lead to him mentally blocking himself at the worst possible times. He would eventually need to get it out of him, but now wasn't that time; right now he had a distraction and an interesting one to boot.]
But you said you can make suits to help in the bog? What else can you make?
no subject
As for what else I can make, well... it's probably easier to list what I CAN'T build rather than what I can. The only thing limiting me right now is a lack of materials... and with the scrap yard that we found yesterday, even that won't last too long.
[Yes, he's quite pleased and happy to turn the topic to that end.]
Add to that the fact that we got power back with that core, and I'm pretty much just looking for a work space now. A couple weeks of salvage operations should get me enough shards to build a decent workshop, and from there, it's easy as floating in space.
no subject
[That didn't sound like a half bad plan honestly, and considering all the good it would do, Ippo didn't mind donating to such a cause.]
I only have about a hundred and thirty shards myself...but I'm not really doing much with them; so if you need extra, I'd be happy to help!
no subject
[Colin chuckles quietly]
But yeah, the shards are definitely handy, but I'd like to get a nice construction method going that doesn't rely on them. It sounds too good to be true, after all. I'd like to have a good backup plan. And frankly, if I haven't built it with my own hands and tools, I don't trust it all that much.
At least until I've really gotten my hands dirty on it.
Still, if you've got shards you're willing to donate, I'm more than happy to put any build orders of yours at the top of my queue.

[Ippo put a hand to his chin in thought for a moment however, he wasn't rightly sure what of all he could even ask Colin to make for him apart from one of those fancy suits.]
Besides, I'm don't really know what I'd even ask you to make...unless of course you could modify my gauntlets to do...I dunno, something.
no subject
Still, I could probably rig up a decent electric shock to them. Possibly a repulsor for more force to your punches, but that might take a little more time. Need a decent power system for that.
[Colin raises his own hand to his chin in thought, nicely mirroring Ippo.]
Whatever the case, you tell me what you'd like your gauntlets to do, and I can come up with something to make it happen. Depending on the complexity, it might take time, but there is NOTHING I can't build.
no subject
[Ippo thought on it, putting what he knew of the world into perspective and then trying to condense his thoughts into simpler things within his imagination.]
Maybe you can rig it to shoot something whenever I hit anything? I didn't do much hunting back where I'm from...but some firepower behind my punches might do some good, right?
no subject
But an impact sensor rigged to a firing mechanism is easy. The trick is deciding whether you want lasers or projectiles. Lasers do more damage with less stopping power, while bullets will stop just about anything you hit while requiring a reload between shots.
Lasers are also safer, less need for protection when there's no explosion to compensate for just a few centimeters from your fingers.
no subject
[First he found out that Alucard was from the 1400's, and now Colin was talking about lasers. The Bastion was an interesting place...but also kind of jarring.]
Anyways...I think I can handle stopping power on my own, so more damage would probably be the better option.
no subject
... I probably shouldn't tell you that lasers are actually primitive for me.
[He probably shouldn't tell Ippo, but the way he's grinning means he's absolutely delighted to.]
Anyway, I'll work on those gauntlet mods for you. A set of impact lasers with a six inch terminus is a breeze. I'll need some parts, but lasers are child's play.
You, on the other hand... need to recover before I'm going to arm you. You've had some major trauma, and it's going to affect your instincts for a while. Especially your combat instincts, you know you'll need a solid head on your shoulders before you go throwing down with anyone or any thing.
And I'll need to train you on their use, you'll have to unlearn a couple of things before you go punching with lasers.
no subject
[If there was one thing that could be said about Ippo, it was that he was extremely difficult to keep down for very long; especially when people needed his help.]
What kinds of things will I have to unlearn? I'm a little curious.
no subject
You'll also need to learn exactly how far to pull your punches. A typical Un-augmented boxer can throw a punch in the range of five to seven megapascals. The impact trigger will likely have to be set to four point five emmpas, so you can throw a weaker punch without triggering the laser.
In other words, you'll need to learn exactly where that trigger is so you can avoid pulling it if you have to.
no subject
[There wasn't much sense in wasting a shot if he could help it, he was sure the lasers wouldn't be in infinite supply after all.]
no subject
[There's a smile again]
When you're in better condition, I'll go over all of this with you in greater detail. Sadly, I'm not a combat instructor, so.... I'm not quite sure how to TEACH it. But I can definitely build training equipment just fine, if you can teach yourself.
Hmmm... I should probably look into a gym, we haven't got much exercise equipment here.
[There he goes on another thought tangent...]
no subject
A gym would be great! I mean...I already have a heavy bag I could donate to that, and it shouldn't be too hard getting a hold of everything else we'd need too!
no subject
Let's see, there's a little over two dozen of us...
[He's mostly talking for Ippo's benefit, though part of it is talking to himself too. He's running calculations in his head as he goes.]
We'll probably need a mid-size building to everything. I'd like a gravity chamber for advanced strength and resistance training, but I don't think we have the materials for that yet...
[Another glance for Ippo]
You might want to save your shards for that, now that I think of it. With the wounded we picked up yesterday, a gym where people can train and rehabilitate will probably be very, very useful.
no subject
[Congratulations Colin, you've got Ippo all riled up and the smile on his face looks like its about ready to rip itself off and run away.]
no subject
[Have a laugh, Ippo]
Sounds like you and I have got a project, once you're on your feet again.
no subject
It definitely sounds like a reason for me to get out of here sooner than later; I'm excited just thinking about it!
no subject
Good!
If you need another boost, we're going to have new fresh fruit tomorrow, and once I can teach Rin to roast the seeds, a steady source of caffeine too.
IF she'll roast the seeds for me, I said the wrong thing to her before our expedition and she's upset at me. Still don't know what I said...
no subject
[Rin as he knew her after all was a pretty straightforward person most of the time; so he was confident they could patch things up. Or so he hoped at any rate.]
no subject
I'm... a little clumsy with my words, most of the time.
no subject
[Given Ippo had improved upon his rigid ways since arriving here; most notably he had stopped calling everyone "-san", "-chan", or "-sempai" after their names. Probably a welcome change in the eyes of the others.]
Words...are hard to get a hold of sometimes; but I've found if you can find the sincerity behind them, then you can usually work things out for the better, you know?
no subject
That's not usually the best conversational habit.
