Day 64 :: Action [Closed]

[ Everything looks wrong and smells wrong.

When he had first awoken in the broken world, he'd gingerly padded over to what had looked like some kind of statue of a True Cross student he didn't recognize, pawing gently with a confused meow. Hey, hey...! It collapsed, sending him skittering away before he'd bumped into another, and yowled as it fell apart as well.

Since then, it has all been a blur. A haze of rage coloring everything as he bulls his way through the Skyway, and rends his enemies into pieces. The category of just what his enemies might be has been fairly loose. Right now, it's populated by 'anything that moves.'

Give him back!

He snaps at the nearest monsters to him, charging a few gasfella and swatting them to the ground as he keeps up a low threatening growl.

I'm not losing him! No one can take him away from me!]

[A small boy by the name of Samuel, no older than eight, had somehow wandered away from the Bastion and out onto the Skyway. Maybe it was because he wanted to be helpful and find Shards too. Maybe it was because he was looking for something else out there.

Whatever the case, he ends up being right there when Kuro is beating the tar out of those Gasfella.

He's hiding behind a fallen wall, trying his best not to cry, but everything out here is scary and he thinks the giant cat is going to eat him. When Kuro gets rid of the Gasfellas, he might be able to hear the sobs coming from behind a wall.]

[ Kuro's ears flick at the sound, and he whirls unthinkingly. That's not Rin! That's just someone else trying to keep him from finding Rin!

He roars, furious at being denied his master.

Give Rin back!

The fallen wall is made short work of. A hard swipe of one huge paw knocks much of it out of the way.

I won't forgive you for taking him away! ]

[Samuel runs away from the wall as it's crumbling, ducking into the remains of a small building. He is absolutely terrified at this point, mostly because he can't understand Kuro and he thinks Kuro is just another monster out to kill all humans.

He's hoping that this building will survive better against Kuro than the wall did.]

[ And then the cat quite literally bit the building.

It really isn't the most pleasant mouthful of stuff, and it buys a bit of time when he spits it all out. Then again, plaster was quite a bit of an improvement over squirts and gasfellas. This is something of a major communication breakdown.

But, hey, it was a little difficult to be a demonic cat wrecking everything in sight. He claws at it, snarling in senseless frustration.]

[It's especially difficult because Samuel has no way to protect himself and running really won't help him. He moves away from that wall, hiding deep within the small building, crawling under a table and curling up on himself.]

Please go away, please go away....

[Rin had gone out hoping for the best, but expecting the absolute worst. She wanted to find him, but she was prepared (if not fearing) to come back alone.

So of course seeing a certain giant cat rampaging all around the Skyway was completely unexpected. She even stopped running, staring with wide eyes as if doing so would reveal all of it to be an elaborate hallucination.

Nope.

That was really Kuro.]

KURO! Kuro, stop!

[ I won't let anyone keep Rin away from me!

The roar in response was deafening, that familiar voice yelling at him was close to what he wished he would hear but not quite right. His claws dig into some rubble, making a terrible sound.

He still turns as he catches her scent, however, and he pauses when he sees her. His fur goes on end, tails lashing back and forth furiously, but he stops. ]

[He definitely heard Rin's voice, and it made the monster stop, so Samuel will be carefully peeking out from his hiding spot to watch what's going on.

You two go talk, just assume he's nearby and watching while the rest goes on.]

[Rin is acutely aware that there's a chance this is the Kuro from Bon's version of their world and not hers, but it doesn't matter because she can hear him raging, and if it does anything to calm him down she'll stand there and take it to keep Samuel safe.]

Kuro, STOP! I'm right here!

[ It's not the easiest thing to understand, but that has to be Rin. She smells like Rin and talks like Rin and looks a great deal like Rin. He holds his ground, yowling plaintively.

But--!

But that was Rin?

Still twitching his tail, he bunches up and abruptly throws himself at her. ]

... awh crap.

[Rin knows what going to happen, but she also knows that moving out of the way would only give Kuro more reason to get angry and continue his rampage.]

Alright. So we're gonna do this again, huh?

[Hope you liked the first time Rin headbutted you, Kuro, 'cause it's going to happen again.]

[ Rin!

This is less of a headbutt and more of an aggressively affectionate gesture as he crashes into her. Kuro rubs his huge face against her as he starts to purr.

I knew you had to be okay! But everything was torn apart, and I couldn't find you!

He didn't even think to change back. ]

[Oh, good. This is much better than a headbutt. Not that it stops her from getting utterly trampled over, knocked down with a giant cat now on top of her purring so loudly the Skyway itself is vibrating.

Wheezing slightly, she lets out a laugh and scratches at Kuro's face under his ears.]

You big dummy, why'd you have to go throw a tantrum, huh? You coulda just looked for me!

[I'm not dumb! I looked everywhere for you!

He leans his head against her hand before a changing size in a puff of smoke. He's a bit easier to handle when perched on her in that size, but more importantly Rin can scratch him more effectively. He had his priorities-- his master being his mistress was somewhere below this.

The things that live here tried to stop me, and I wasn't going to let them. ]

You scared poor Sam! ... 'course he shouldn't be out here anyway--

[HINT HINT CHILD]

but still you gotta be more careful than that! I thought you didn't want to hurt humans, right?

[Rin isn't bothered that her gender hasn't been brought up. It'll come around eventually.]

[WHOOPS he's ducking back down into his hiding spot when he hears that.

He's so grounded now isn't he?]

[ I wanted him to show me where you were...

Okay, no, that was kind of a weak justification when he'd been on the warpath. He honestly feels bad about that in hindsight. He turns his head, pitching his next meow a bit higher and louder.

Hey, hey, you should come out here! Come here! ]

[SO grounded.

Rin doesn't believe you for a second, Kuro, but whatever that's not important now. She stands up with Kuro in her arms.]

Sam. C'mere.

[He slowly peeks up over the edge of the broken wall, but he flinches when he hears Kuro meow. Sorry Kuro, he's a little traumatized by the whole experience.

But his curiosity about Rin outweighs his fear of Kuro.]

Why did it stop attacking?

[ Kuro's still purring in a low, steady rumble, but he does have the grace to look rather chagrined about the whole matter. Aside from his few demonic features, he's little more than a particularly expressive cat when in Rin's arms like this.

But he does protest a little.

It? ]

Not "it", him. This is Kuro, he's my familiar. He was upset because he couldn't find me.

[Rin pets Kuro's ears, rubbing at them gently.]

You're lucky it was something I could stop, Sam. Anna's really worried about you.

She wasn't supposed to tell anyone!

[As annoyed as he is at Anna blabbing, he at least has the sense of mind to look somewhat guilty. He really did make a mistake by coming out here alone.]

Sorry...

[ There were a lot of demons here, too!

Or what seemed close enough to demons. Kuro should know, he'd ripped them all to shreds.

I think they don't like trespassers. It's no good to come out here! ]

They ain't demons, but they're pretty close. And they're dangerous.

[Pointed look at Sam.]

I told her not to tell anyone else unless I'd been gone an hour. So we'd best get back unless you really want Nathaniel jumpin' down your throat for this.

[Hey Rin hey Rin there's a small child tugging at your sleeve.]

Um, Miss Rin?

[Rin had been hauling some supplies from the store room to the kitchen when she was stopped by the child. It wasn't uncommon around there, so it wasn't difficult for her to stop and shift the bag she was carrying on her shoulder from one to the other so she could look down.]

Hey Anna. 'sup?

I didn't know who to tell, but...

[She stands there looking uncomfortable for a moment. She's got something important to say, but she's clearly afraid of the consequences.]

I can't find Sam anywhere, not even in his normal hiding places.

[Oh.

... shit.

Okay, okay, she doesn't want to panic or cause panic, but something needs to be done.

She sets the bag down and puts a hand on Anna's shoulder, crouching down to to be eye level with her.]

I'm going out to the Skyway, alright? If I'm not back in an hour, tell Nathaniel. Keep looking here, though.

[Anna nods. This is why she went to Rin in the first place: she knew Rin would come up with something without causing a panic.]

If you find him, don't tell anyone that he left, okay? I-I think he went to look for his dad, he was talking about it for the last couple days, ever since those other people arrived.

Damn... yeah, I heard him. I was hopin' he would give it up, or at least ask for help.

[Sigh. Children.]

I won't. We'll figure this out, okay?

[She nods.]

If he did go out there, he's probably by the Wharf District. That's where his dad disappeared.

Right. I'll check there first.

[Rin manages a tiny smile, ruffling Anna's hair.]

I'm gonna go. Remember, don't say anythin' unless I've been gone for an hour.

[Anna nods, and then she runs off. She's going to run interference until Rin gets back or an hour passes.]
