day 108 - Action [open] | Lemon Gels, sour so you don't stay drowsy
Who: 'Duke', Alucard, anyone!
Open: Open
When: 108, during the 'night'
Where: Onsen
What: a knight is having feels in the bath
Format: log
Warnings: .... People are in the onsen, which i guess means nekkid people.
The knight supposes there's always a bit of humans that is hypocritical. This is probably why Duke is settled in the onsen with as little lighting as the knight can see by, sunk up in water up to pale shoulders.
"Damn."
It was easy enough to forget everything, like the knight had been telling Rin, when one kept busy. With paperwork, discipline, and keeping up order once, and now with practicing in 'mornings', core runs when they were spotted, general runs into the skyway... But those still left Duke with more time to think.
And that wasn't good. Sure, the knight hadn't run across any familiar statues yet, but at the same time...
"They had just found you, you damn bastard. So they said..." It wasn't that the knight distrusted Brave Vesperia, it was just that someone could only hear so many people comment on how unlikely it was to survive outside the barriers for ten years, let alone twenty.
"Why couldn't you have just come home, instead of leaving me to second guess..."
That splash was the knight dipping below the surface to try to stop anything more than a tight sound to the words.
And while it isn't terribly dark out, given its only thick clouds, but the knight is settled hopefully out of the way from the main entrance, with hopefully enough steam going on that no one can see quite what the knight looks like under the water. That would be awkward.
---
For most of the population of the Bastion a bath is nothing more than a fact of life. Even those not used to public baths like the onsen can just time it so that they reduce their likelyhood of seeing anyone else; the fact remains that it's still just a bath. For one resident however, bathing has always consisted of a bucket of water and a cloth to scrub himself off with. It's not that Alucard is precisely afraid of water, so much as being immersed even slightly in it would burn as much as any flame - and if exposed too long, just as deadly.
Of course, he had found that one little artifact before his world was destroyed that negated these effects if on his person, but habits built up over a long time as a survival mechanism are a bit hard to break. Which is exactly why he's keeps eyeing the water almost nervously, even as he's sitting chest deep in it. Nearly four hundred, and only just now having his first bath...
...Is that a little snorkel-shaped charm around his neck?

Rin didn't really bother looking to see if anyone else had come through the changing house, so when she herself came in (also nude, of course) she entered at the same time Duke had slipped under the water.
Thinking she was alone there, she discarded her towel and sat down on the rocks, taking a moment to rub at her feet with a tired groan. She still wasn't completely mentally recovered from what had happened on the Skyway, but she was at least back in the kitchen and keeping herself busy after being absent for a few days.
"Ugh..."
Which led to some pretty sore feet.
Her hand went over her right ankle where a faint, thin circular scar went around. She paused there, staring at it for a moment, before letting out a sigh and sliding in to the water.
no subject
"This is not a problem, right?" There might be a hint of that hoarseness that the knight had been trying to avoid, but hopefully not much else. Its small tidbits of body shifting that keep anything terribly obvious about the pale body in the water from being seen by...
"Rin." Duke doesn't exactly know how these sorts of things ought to be worked....
no subject
Rin lets out a yelp, softly, only startled for a moment before she realizes who it is. Though... that does make it awkward because she's still not entirely sure if Duke is male or female.
Then again... it doesn't really matter. It's not like modesty is a priority in the Bastion.
"N... no. I mean, if you don't mind..."
Of course she says that as she sinks lower in the water herself, trying to hide her small chest.
no subject
The knight will stay like that for a while, leaning back (possibly uncomfortably looking, head at that angle) before giving a bit of a heavy sigh and sinking into the water again.
Give Duke a moment.
no subject
Except totally uncomfortable. And she's left there just staring quietly, not even bothering to make it look like she's not staring.
no subject
".... Something bothering you?" It is totally sharing the 'bath' that is bothering Rin, isn't it.
no subject
That was a lie, but she couldn't just outright say 'I have no idea if you're a guy or a girl'.
no subject
Granted, Duke isn't entirely aware of what exactly the problem is, just that there's something awkward about sharing the onsen with Rin.
"I can get out if its too awkward."
no subject
Unfortunately, Rin has really good hearing, even through bubbles.
She sinks a little lower, face turning an interesting shade of red under the already flushed skin thanks to the heat of the onsen.
"N-no! I could just... p... pull the curtain... I mean that's what it's there for..."
no subject
"If its closer to me, I can do it." Just... awkward everywhere.
no subject
"It's... right there..." Rin pointed a finger up out of the water, back a little where the big folding wooden screen had been pushed back.
no subject
"Give me a moment to figure it out."
Now, the knight had twisted all that hair up, but repeated dunking had done what it usually does.
Even if Duke is standing, that sure is long hair covering anything that would help Rin figure out guy or girl. Well, unless Rin decided to stare really hard.
no subject
Quick! Think of something conversational!
"Th... that's a lotta hair..."
... smooth, Rin. Real smooth.
no subject
Haha.
"High ponytails tend to make it look shorter, as do braids..."
no subject
"Th... there's a cord--... d'you need help? I've pulled it before."
no subject
And it doesn't help that as far as the knight knows, the one at Yumanju has a permanent wall.
But the knight will step back, and watch what Rin does without watching Rin terribly much.
no subject
Nodding, she stands out of the water, self-consciously putting an arm across her chest. Not that there was much to hide, but modesty was a thing where she was from and even she had her own personal hangups about her body.
"It's like this."
She reached up near the top and pulled a thick cord over, giving it a tug. A small latch that held the screen back when it wasn't being used clicked out of place, and the screen started to slide out.
no subject
"Ah." Duke steps forward to help with tug it more.
no subject
"It took me a few tries to get it to move, too," Rin admitted sheepishly, smiling with a faint flush still in her cheeks as they moved it along.
no subject
"Its stiff and I have no idea how it works." Agreeing, though.
no subject
Rin leaned over around the screen, actually getting a good glance at Duke this time.
... huh. Okay, maybe her first guess was right. But it would still be rude to ask.
"Things like this are pretty common in old houses where I'm from."
no subject
The knight settles back into the water up to shoulders, which lets all that hair fan out in the water and be a block again.
"Stones, giant gardens and yards and no real ability to protect themselves. You'd think walls would be more than ornaments."
Dammit.
no subject
"Better than paper and bamboo doors and screens with wooden walls..."
no subject

no subject
Oops the knight isn't really trying to be violentminded but....
no subject
Rin goes quiet, wracking her none-to-sharp brain for any memory of various stories of old Japan.
"I wish we had books from our worlds here. I kinda remember Yuki telling me once or twice about riots against emperors or shogun rulers that started with angry villagers setting fire to things..."
no subject
"Fire is pretty cheap. Of course, I can imagine accidents would have been fairly common early into paper-and-wood house construction...."
no subject
Even if Rin wasn't all that smart, she at least knew enough about the land she came from to make such statements.
