[Yeah this seems like a trap. Rob sees a watchtower and decides to get a better vantage point. He sits down cross-legged and facing the tower, then focuses on the highest point he can see on its roof. The magic of the wolf pelt he's wearing activates, and his viewpoint switches to the targeted location, like there's an invisible camera there that he's looking through. He starts "panning the camera" around the area, seeing if there's anything or anyone of interest visible from his new vantage point.]

[Rin came to a halt when Zuko raised her hand, standing with Kintarou (who was no longer a Tepig but had evolved in to a Pignite) at her side. Both of them were tense and quiet, Rin's ears still trained to their surroundings even as she listened to Zuko speaking to Grey. She didn't like the feel of this any more than the others did, but she wasn't about to open her mouth when she knew she wasn't the most diplomatic of people. Better to be prepared for whatever trap was going to be sprung.]

[It seems a terribly obvious trap. Easily obvious enough that it has Alucard sniffing the air for any sign that there might be anyone who shouldn't be here.]

[Yeeeep, obvious trap. He's keeping his eyes on the area around them while Zuko talks.]

[Grey sees the group, and he sort of just. Waves nervously at the group.]

Oh, hey there. They were right, you guys came after all-

[And then he sees Red, and his eyes go wide.]

You- you brought her here?!

We thought she'd be interested in finding a core.

[At least that's what they told Red. Zuko glances at her to see if her face gives anything away as if Zuko is any good at reading people.

She looks back at Grey, trying very hard to keep her tone neutral. She can easily tell how nervous he is, she doesn't want to set him off.]

I'm guessing you were only expecting us.

Whatever you're doing here, you don't have to go through with it.

[Grey shakes his head.]

I'm not going to 'go through' with anything, because there's nothing to do here. All I had to do was stand out here with this core.

If you wanted to meet with us, or give us a core, there are better ways to do it.

[aka, don't try to pretend this isn't some kind of trap. Although it's possible Grey doesn't know any more than his role in it.]

[Rin's hand rested on the hilt of her sword, though she was still not drawing it. She wasn't going to attack unless something started first.]

[Y'all can keep bickering, if you like. Psii is just going to close his eyes and see if he can foresee anything bad happening to do with the quarry. Might as well use his asshole connection towards Doom for good, or something.]

[Yep, while talking is going on, Alucard's just gonna be sniffing around in case anything changes, because really, this isn't saying "trap." It's standing on top of a platform in the town square and doing a bombastic musical number about it.]

[Tobias agrees, which is why he's doing another pass to see if he can see anything. Alucard's got smell covered, he can cover sight and hearing.]

They're...they're not here. But they wanted you to be here, so you weren't somewhere else.

... I don't think he's lyin'. I can't smell or hear a damn thing that isn't us and him. [That last part worries Rin, though. For once, something isn't going completely over her head.] Wouldn't be somewhere--... oh, shit. [She looks at Zuko, suddenly frantic.] Y-you don't think-- ?!

That the trap isn't for us?

[The only reason to draw them out and do them no harm is to weaken the Bastion's defenses. She grits her teeth.]

Grey, bring the Core. We're going back to the Bastion.

[And her tone definitely says that if he doesn't follow that order, she'll make him.]

[Well put, Psii. Grumbling, he narrows his eyes even when he opens them.]

Can go ahead. [He's speedy, even if he hasn't shown it. Although he might pass out from the effort.] Take thomeone with, too.

[Who wants to go flying with the alien, raise your hands.]

[Yeah, basically. Rin can agree with that sentiment whole-hearted.]

I'll go. Pretty sure between the two of us we can take out anythin' that tries to get in our way.

[Sorry, Kintarou. You're staying behind. Be a good Pignite and keep everyone else safe.]

[Grey is offering the core to Rin and Psii.]

You might need it, if things get bad.

<I'll fly ahead! Alucard, you come too. We've got to get back to them now.>

[The core is important, but making sure that the others don't die is even more important.]

[Zuko narrows her eyes at Grey. She doesn't think he's a bad person, but his loyalties lie with his own people. So why encourage them to get the core back as fast as they can? Does he think that's good for all of them, or just his own?]

It might not be a good idea to rush a core into the middle of a potential conflict.

You guys go ahead. We'll take the long way. Let us know what to expect before we bring this thing home.

B-but there's monsters and this thing is going to bring them here eventually!

[Loyalties may play a part in it, but Grey is a chickenshit too.]

I can teleport it straight back if you want.

[Suddenly there's a voice coming from directly behind Grey, and a moment later the invisibility potion ends and a man wearing pieces of animals and carrying a big axe appears from thin air.]

I don't have the arrival point set to a public area, so I can hide it and make sure everything's okay before revealing it.

[Way to terrify the new guy, Rob. Rin's concern lies more with the fact that they still haven't even left to warn the others back at the Bastion.] Whatever! We don't got time for this! You guys figure this shit out yourselves, this guy [she jerks a thumb at Psii] and I are gettin' back to the Bastion before there's no Bastion left to go home to!

Just go.

[Zuko nods to Rin and the Weirdo before she can even figure out how to acknowledge Rob's contribution to the drama. Then she frowns at him in thought.]

Couldn't it be detected by the same thing that found it here?

[Ignoring Grey for the moment because yes, they all know about the monsters. That's part of why they're armed.]

[And with that, he's off running. Sure, he won't be able to go as the bat flies, but this way is plenty fast enough and saves energy.
