Who: Colin, anyone interested in what he's doing.
Open: Like a convenience store.
When: Day 323, all morning. (BACKDATED)
Where: Several key locations around the Bastion.
What: Setting up surveillance systems
Format: Action to start, but anything's good.
Warnings: A short-tempered Colin.

[Just the other day he had been speaking with Nathan about the thefts that had been taking place. They'd agreed that some sort of surveillance system would be necessary in order to better defend against the thief.]

[Then the party came back, minus two souls, and Colin's mind went straight into defense mode. Cameras were purchased, sites were chosen, and plans were put in motion.]

[This morning Colin is moving from place to place, setting up cameras and wires as appropriate. Some of the cameras are huge, blatant affairs that can't help but be noticed. Others are tiny, designed to be hidden.]

[He's stopping by most of the buildings in the Bastion to set up at least one camera. If anyone has an opinion on big brother, now's your time to express yourself.]

[Kintarou nuzzled in to her hand, accepting gentle pets from the half demon.]

Mn. No, I know that. I woulda gone crazy here a long time ago if I didn't have friends.

[But.]

... I didn't think we would lose so many people.

There's no good way to deal with the kind of loss we've been facing... All we can do is try to be there for each other.

[He reaches down with his other hand to scratch 'Taro's back as well. Poor little guy probably has been working his tail off trying to keep her calm...]

[He really has been, and aside from crying a lot she's actually been fairly calm. Nothing is on fire, at least.]

Mm...

[Surprisingly, whatever issues they may have had with each other in the past seem to be bothering Rin very little right now, and she even slumps to rest her head on his shoulder tiredly.

It gives a view through the pantry door and back outside of the kitchen, whatever equipment Colin might have been carrying at the time visible through it.]

What're you workin' on?

[Colin's gonna make you such a nice little ball pen, 'Taro. you've been a good firepig.]

[He lets Rin rest against him, and he turns his head to look out as she looks.]

Security systems. Between the thieves and the enemies out there, I don't want our sensitive areas undefended. Food, hospital, storage... Anything that can hurt us if it's hit, I want it defended.

[He's certainly is a good firepig.]

Oh...

[Surveillance might not be sitting well with everyone else, but even Rin knows they've long since hit their limit when it comes to surviving what's beyond their safe haven. If that was going to be at their proverbial walls sooner or later...

Well, she would at least want a damn warning to give her long enough to grab swords and start hitting things.]

Not for everyone. Hardly how I want to be using resources either. But... If we can catch the people out to get us, it will save us a headache later.

[He lifts his head to look down at her.]

You got any thoughts on security? I'm setting up cameras 'cause it's a pretty basic thing, but I'd love some other ideas that other people would be agreeable to...

Not really, no. I mean, sayin' "I just wanna know when somethin' is attackin' so I can throw my flames at it" ain't that helpful.

We gotta do... somethin', though. I feel like we're losin' control.

I can make everything from cameras to shields to armor to turrets... Eventually, though, that road leads to complete militarization.

I'm used to that, but it's not a good thing for a largely civilian population.

[He sighs.]

... You ever get in trouble, though. You lead trouble to my workshop. What I won't do for the Bastion without permission... I WILL do for my own territory.

[It's safe to say his workshop is armed to the teeth.]

We're bein' attacked just for goin' outside our own territory, though...

[She lets her own sigh out, shaking her head slightly.]

I don't like the idea of it any more than the others do, but I also know what it's like to have to take up weapons just to survive.

That's up to the rest of you to decide what you want. I'm not about to go imposing my values on the rest of you. I'll help how you all decide you want to be helped, and otherwise, I'll just develop my own little corner of the Bastion to my preferences.

[He shakes his head.]

The rules are all so different now. I don't think some people here realize that, even after all that's happened...

No one wants things to change. Even the people that are okay with change.

[Just like how she didn't want to leave the church, but she had to.

She didn't want to go to school, but she had to.

She didn't want to wake up at the end of the world, alone and scared. But she did.

And now the game was changing yet again.]

I know I gave you a lotta shit before but... I'm startin' to feel like you really are the only one who knows what the fuck we should even be doin'.

I wish that praise could have come from a less depressing realization.

[Just gonna keep right on hugging her.]

I may not like everyone here, but I'm doing what I can to keep everyone alive. I can't, and won't, control anyone... But as long as they're in an area I can behold, I'll do everything I can to keep everyone alive and well.

At least it came at all... ?

[She really wasn't one to so easily admit defeat, after all.

At least not when things are normal and calm and not going to utter shit.]

I know you're tryin'. Even from the start you were tryin'... it just wasn't always that obvious to the rest of us.

[Colin smiles, and gives her arm a reassuring squeeze.]

Everyone's trying in their own ways. We just... don't understand each other a lot of the time. Major culture shock on top of everything else.

No... we don't. I think the only thing we all understand is survivin' all this.

[Though she had begun to question if even that was possible after all that had happened.]
