Day 309 [Open]

Who: Anya, Ibuki, Patchouli, and anyone else!
Open: Open! Mostly.
When: Day 309
Where: All over the Bastion
What: SNOW!
Format: I'll match
Warnings: It's Anya.

[For Ibuki and Patchouli]
[Sometime after lunch, Anya takes off to look for two of her best lady friends with a spellbook under her arm and some key ingredients in her pockets.

She's quite cheerful about it, a little oblivious to whatever else might have been going on lately. Cheerful, and insistent. She will track you down.]

[Open to All]
[Later in the day, Bastionites may be surprised to look up and notice that... it's snowing. Not only that, but the temperature has dropped.

At least in the more southerly parts of the Bastion. The farmlands might get a few sporadic flurries, but it isn't cold enough there to stick.

So if you've been missing snowmen or snowball fights or any of those activities that require winter to happen, now's your chance. It's probably not going to last very long.]

((OOC: And feel free to just use this post for mingling!]

...In my defense, I usually only end up fighting things smaller than me.

[Mitellux stares at Rob for a few seconds]

...

How long has it been since you've taken up the sword?

[Rob starts to fidget slightly under her silent gaze while he waits for her to speak.]

A bit over three months now? I started a bit after I came here. It's not something I ever had a chance to try in my world.

[Depending on how much Mitellux saw and how much she knows about swordfighting, she might have figured out that Rob has been getting instruction but has no actual talent for fighting. If she's very good, she might have picked up on the fact that the sword isn't the weapon he has the strongest affinity for; based on how he instinctively tries to wield a sword, that weapon would be a two-handed axe.

Also the mun just realized he never mentioned Rob's glowing-eyed rabbit skull necklace, but Mitellux is probably one of the people in the Bastion who cares the least about what humans wear.]

[For a dragon, Mitellux is actually fairly well versed in the ways that humans fight with medieval weaponry.]

Three months time is not nearly long enough for anybody, human or dragon, to be a reliable fighter. Not without natural talent, at the very least, or assistance from an unnatural source.

[She narrows her eyes down at him]

I have seen your kind before, and I have-[killed your kind before, she almost says]... seen the likes of you fall before, and they often end up dragging at least a few of their allies with them to their deaths.

You do not even wield the sword semi-appropriately, but as if it were a heavier weapon meant exclusively as a two handed weapon.

[She then lowers her gaze slightly, taking note of the necklace; yes Mitellux does care what humans wear, because you never know what might turn out to be a weapon. She'd question him about that later]

[His expression for each paragraph says plenty - a reluctant nod of acceptance that she's right, clenched-teeth discomfort at the idea that his inexperience could lead to others being injured, and confusion, respectively.]

I, uh, I started out trying to use a sword and shield, but after Zuko started teaching me she said that I'd do better with a two-handed sword. It seems like she was right; I was having a lotta trouble making my hands do two different things while fighting, but swinging just a sword around is easier for me.

[The glow comes from a shard hanging in each eye socket. Other than that it's the skull and six largest legbones from an ordinary housecat-sized rabbit, exactly like the ones she may have seen around the Bastion, strung out on a cord made from brain-tanned rabbit hide. There is not a whiff of magic on it, unless the shards themselves count.]

[For being basically a magical creature herself, Mitellux's expertise in magic was actually limited. She dealt with items of arcane nature because she has rogue levels with points in Use Magical Device-, but she certainly can't tell if something's magic or not by sight]

There are other ways one can serve a community than through combat. Be thankful that this Bastion does not appear to be in the midst of war, rather than trying to plunge yourself recklessly into danger.

But should you still wish to serve this place through combat, know that time and patience is key to becoming an effective fighter. Spar, train, and learn. Only when you can hold your own against the other warriors of this place should you feel comfortable accompanying them on such dangerous ventures.

I try and do other things around here too. I just... wanna make sure I'm doing everything I can. That and I've never had a chance to do a lot of the stuff I can do here, so it's worth trying out various things and seeing if any of them are things I wanna focus on.

[Still not the whole truth, technically, but a good chunk of it.]

[Mitellux lets out a snort at that]

Do as you wish, then, but know your limits.

[She doesn't care about what Rob does outside of combat, honestly.]

[He nods.]

I try to.

[Doesn't mean he's good at it, but he tries.]
