Between Zulf's revelation and Azula's arrival, Zuko hasn't been sleeping all that well the past few days. If she isn't up mulling over their situation, then she's startled awake by any sound as she approaches sleep, thinking of lightning.

She hasn't been at the pool lately either, though she's been sure to show up for her morning training regimen. Whichever of her students might show up have probably noticed the lack of sleep, and certainly by today. Her reaction time is slower and she loses focus at times. Still, she's determined to keep up with it.

It catches up with her by sometime in the afternoon. She just meant to sit down for a minute, and that donut tree is pleasantly shady and fragrant, in a way that doesn't remind her of home. And then, at some point, she drifted off, with Kizuna the baby dragon lying curled up on her stomach.

[Rin had kind of expected this. Zuko had been distracted during training for days now. She was going to say something eventually, but she wanted to see if Zuko would snap out of it first.

Instead she finds the other girl asleep under a doughnut tree.

Yup.

Rin watched her for a minute just to make sure she wasn't about to jerk awake by some one being near, but when Zuko didn't budge she wandered off only to return a little later with a blanket. Might as well let her sleep comfortably if she was going to pass out under a tree...]

[Zuko is still out, but Kizuna perks up. Blanket? She likes blankets, they are cozy and good for hiding under.]

Hey, Kiz-chan.

[Rin smiles at her, giving her head an affectionate rub.]

Doin' a good job protectin' your mom, right?

[Yes, she is the best dragon, give her all the pettings.

Zuko shifts a bit, hearing Rin's voice.]

Hnn?

[Of course!]

Mornin', sleepin' beauty. Feel better?

Hm.

[She's not sure what the answer to that question is. She sits up carefully, trying not to disturb Kizuna too much.]

... What did you just call me?

... nothin'.

[Zuko gives her a suspicious look but she didn't actually catch the words well enough to repeat them.]

What's with the blanket?

Thought you'd be out for a while so I figured you'd want somethin' warm when it got dark.

[It's not like there's in inherent danger to sleeping outside in the Bastion, even if it's far less comfortable than a bed.]

It doesn't get that cold here.

[Even if she did grow up living on a freaking volcano and likes being warm.]

Geez, just make me feel like an ass for tryin' to be nice...

[You're making her pout, Zuko. Gosh.]

I bet. She likes bein' warm, huh?

Of course. She might not be able to do anything yet, but she's still a firebender.

Well then, she can have it. It'll keep her nice and warm.

Isn't it your blanket? She has her own when we get home later.

[Yes Zuko absolutely got Kizuna her own special blanket.]

Consider it a gift.

[It was left over from her original apartment, and rarely used in the one she was in now. She had a blanket she favored anyway, and saw no need for this one to go to waste.]

I'm sure she ain't gonna argue a second blanket to burrow in to.

...no, probably not.

[Zuko gives. Kizuna's blanket nest is important and adorable.]

[Rin will just be flopping down next to you now.]

How'd you sleep? Seems like you've been pretty out of it since uh... well, y'know.

I guess I have.

[And that little nap was not enough to make up for it but she's not about to say that.]

I just keep... worrying about what she might do.

Yeah... I'd be worried, too...

[Rin has gone out of her way to not mention her initial meeting with Azula, and she's not about to bring it up here.]

The Bastion is gonna keep her from doin' anything too dangerous to anyone, but we can't control her on the Skyway. I guess all we can hope for is that she's not gonna bite the hand that feeds her or whatever.

I don't... think she'll hurt anyone as long as she can't see any advantage to it.

The person she's the biggest threat to is probably me. She said she wanted to "start over," but from our track record, she probably just wants me on her side until she can find a good time to stab me in the back.

What would even be the point, though? I mean, ignorin' for a second that she'd have the entire Bastion on her for hurtin' one of our own, is there really anythin' for her to gain from it here?

...she'd get to be an only child.

And that does what for her here? Ain't like your dad is around to dole out the praises or whatever.
