Day 321 | A Walkabout

Megaera had been thinking about things recently. About where the Bastion was headed, and what hope that might entail. While she'd come to accept that her former world was lost - and her world before that in turn, almost assuredly - it was still difficult to accept some of the things that were lost.

People were one thing. But the knowledge lost - and how much of the world's magic was going to be possibly forever crippled by not having enough arcane energy to cast more than three times per day without special tonics... That hurt more than anything. To someone who placed her identity as a wizard first and moremost, the idea of an entire world's development being lost - so much beyond her ability to know what to ask for, let alone to comprehend and use it - was really starting to get to her.

So she walked. Through the new forest, to the hot springs, to the very edges of the Bastion, out on her usual shard run... She'd been moving basically nonstop.

Zuko catches sight of Megaera as she's coming out of the forest, and she may not be the most perceptive person, but the other woman looks like she's got something on her mind.

"Everything all right?"

Megaera stopped, looking towards Zuko and half-heartedly waving before hearing her question.

"... I guess? I just... Have been thinking about something."

"You need someone to listen?"

Megaera's lent an ear and her advice in the past, and while Zuko isn't sure she can return the favor in terms of advice, she can at least listen.

[twinked_witch]

"... That'd be nice."

Megaera leaned by a tree. "I... Guess I just kind of realized something I've not thought about in the time I've been here until now..."

Zuko settles back against a different tree and gives a nod, waiting for her to continue. She guesses it probably has something to do with Megaera's home, but she can't really be sure.

"... It's lost. The knowledge, I mean. I... Part of the whole nature of my transformation kind of magnified aspects of my personality. The idea that of all the arcane knowledge of my world, only the tiny sliver with me remains, and even that isn't fully usable..."

She sighed. "It hurts. It sounds stupid as hell, but..."

"It's not stupid." It's something she thinks about a lot, actually.

"I'm a firebender. I don't know the other bending arts, and I can't carry on the traditions of the other nations. I don't even know if I'll have anyone to pass my own onto, besides Kizuna."

She probably won't, honestly, since that's sort of up to Azula, and... Azula being in any sort of relationship is difficult for Zuko to imagine, much less one where she has children.

"I... You're right. So much lost... But if what I've heard is right, even if we could bring it back, we might just be setting up an even worse apocalypse later..."

Megaera just sort of sat down, not paying attention to much of anything. "There has to be more, but..."

"You mean the restore option?" The way Zuko says that and the frown on her face make it clear which side she's on in terms of whether or not to use it.

"Focusing too much on what you've lost makes you desperate. That's how I was back home. I made a lot of mistakes I wound up regretting."

Using the Bastion's restore function is a tempting choice. It caters to all these feelings of wanting things to be back the way they were, bringing back the things and people that they've lost, making it so they don't have to be alone. But Zuko is sure that it would be another mistake.

"That... You're right. But at the same time, just knowing that doesn't make it easier. At all."

[daughterofursa]

"No, it doesn't." Zuko scratches her head. "That's why friends are so important here."

Friends make it easier.

So do girlfriends.

[twinked_witch]

"True. True. It's... Probably the most important thing of all."

[daughterofursa]

The most important? Zuko's put other things before her friendships in the past. But then, things were pretty complicated and she didn't know a lot about friendship to begin with.

"Maybe. It... gets too hard doing everything on your own."

[twinked_witch]

"Yeah. We're... None of us are alone here. Even if sometimes it feels that way, we have one another."

Zuko nods, considers for a moment, and then asks, "Is this an ice cream situation?"

[twinked_witch]

"... Probably. Among other things."

[daughterofursa]

"What are the other things?"

Should she be hugging you or something?

[twinked_witch]

"I just... Need to figure out how to not think about this too much," Megaera observed. "Focus down on the goals, in hopes of some serious advancement on some of the troubles I have that way."

[daughterofursa]

"Giving yourself goals you can still accomplish here is good. And hobbies, right?"

Not that Zuko is very good with those, but everyone tells her she needs them. Megaera included.

[twinked_witch]

"... There's some irony hearing that from you, you know," Megaera chuckled. "Though the point still stands..."

[daughterofursa]

"Yeah, I know."

At least she's considering people's advice?

"Do you like to swim?"

[twinked_witch]

"... Never really had a lot of chance. The village water was from a well, not a river, then academy training, then, uh, well you wouldn't want to swim in the rivers of the Vanguard even if you're immune to poison..."

Megaera blinked. "... Never had the chance to do much past bathing..."

[daughterofursa]

"Well- Aoi's always looking for people to join her team, if you're interested. She can teach, too."

Plugging the girlfriend's swimteam.

[twinked_witch]

"That... Might not be a bad idea. Mind, I'd need something appropriate to wear for that..."

One power Megaera did not have was breathing underwater, so being able to move was a good thing...

"The Monument can make swimsuits. It shouldn't be a problem."

Although some of them are... cut differently from what Zuko is used to.
