Life goes on in the Bastion. Whether death, calamity, or simple misfortune, that is how things work. That is how it goes for Paarthurnax, as well.

In the morning, when the sun is still faint, he takes off to the Skyway and doesn't return for some hours, bringing back both shards stuck in his teeth and the meat of a mammoth to eat, or share.

In the noon and some hours following it, he teaches his class at the stone tablet with its letters in his own tongue, patient and careful for both new students and more practiced ones alike.

The only change to this seems to come in the evening. It's then that people might notice him at the Monument, drawn up high as he sits and inspects the device.

People are free to talk with him during any of these times. Paarthurnax has always made it known that he can be approached, after all.

[The voice is familiar- not because of what he's heard but because of the accent of it. Most of the Bastion's people are all unique, save for a few such as Rin and her brother. So for it to be familiar draws his attention, massive head turning so that he can glance down to her.]

Indeed. Drem yol lok. You are new to this settlement, I see.

That's right. I've only been here a few days. It's still so strange...

You will adjust, as time passes. It may not be pleasant, but it shall happen.

There are those who will be glad to help you.

Yes, I noticed quite a few people willing to come to my aid simply because I was new.

[their help was useless in her mind but w/e]

[wayofvoice]

The sooner everyone is adjusted, the sooner they can work with us. That is part of it, I believe.

[The other part is just that most of the Bastion is filled with helpful people.]

Have you been able to make much progress?

[wayofvoice]

What would you define as such? [He tilts his head, curious.] Everyone here has different ideas on how we might thrive.

[Which is why they have donut trees.]

If the point is to work together, shouldn't we have a common goal?

[wayofvoice]

Yet there are many different paths to one goal. Some, such as Colin, believe that technology is the answer. Others believe that it is best to rely on purely the Bastion.

[fireburn]

True enough, but some don't think getting home is an option, others believe we can put everything back together, and others still think this could be a different reality entirely.

[wayofvoice]

And perhaps all three could be true. [A low puff of air.] Either way, it is a difficult thing to wrap one's mind around.

Yet for now, until more things come to light, focusing on survival of the short term seems to be that which most here focus on.

I heard that the bastion was safe, as a fortress. What are we lacking?

[wayofvoice]

Proper defenses that rely not only upon the skills of our fighters or the Monument's effect.

Of course, perhaps even more than that... We require proper healers, whether those of magic or those of simple physical skill.

[fireburn]

A man named Rob seemed interested in that art.

[wayofvoice]

Rob is an ambitious man. There is much he wishes to accomplish. I simply hope he does not take more than he is capable of.

Is he the only one working on healing?

[wayofvoice]

Ghaleon is the most experienced amongst our number, and I have seen Otoha visit the hospital as well... But in times such as these, more than that is needed.

[fireburn]

I would offer, but my powers are all based in destruction.

[wayofvoice]

There are ways to learn the art of healing without the use of magic, or other such things. Both could be used here.

[fireburn]

Do you really think I could?

[wayofvoice]

Is there a reason you could not?

[fireburn]

It just seems so much different than anything I've done.

[wayofvoice]

I know the feeling well. I have gone quite a different road than how I was in my youth... But I have found it more preferable.

Perhaps by trying that which seems foreign to you, you will learn more of yourself as well.

[fireburn]
