A - Morning | Onsen

It's become more difficult to relax at the Bastion ever since the appearance of certain hellbeasts, but Anya does her best. Bunnies are not fond of water, so the onsen is safer than other locations even if it's hardly impregnable. She regularly enjoys a nice morning soak, and she's been considering taking up swimming.

B - Evening | Distillery

You know what also helps?

Booze.

She isn't drinking to excess, but there is nothing like a state of mild inebriation to give her a false sense that all is right with the world. It helps her sleep at night in spite of the threat of bunnies infiltrating her room again.

... not that I blame you if you've ignored them.

I've been getting strange looks since the 9th century. If anyone wants to see me as "normal," they're going to have to change, not me.

Fair enough, Anya. I guess to expect you to change after that long is not really feasible.

Ninth century, though... I don't think you've mentioned your age at any point. To me, anyway.

Oh, it's not that. I just don't want to. And that's how long I haven't wanted to.

1125 years, to be exact.

I see. I'm only about 110, myself.

Yes. We're both still young.

Indeed. Just that one of us is significantly younger than the other.

It's weird being the younger one, though.

I suppose I've gotten used to being the older one, though it is nice to have someone to talk to who's got at least one century under her belt.

Indeed. It's nice having a chance speaking to someone older. It certainly seems as though our population skews quite young.

Yes. Which may be best for our survival, but in terms of companionship it can be frustrating.

Absolutely.

[She's not... always sure how much that's the best for their survival, either.]

Granted, I'm not exactly the sort to be very interested in others at all as a general rule..

I'll take that as a compliment.

I suppose it's a little strange to say, right? "I don't really care much for speaking to others... but for you, I'll make an exception."

... but I don't think there's much need to dwell on that.

Whats strange about it? Of course people would make exceptions for me, I'm fabulous.

Even that aside, it kind of makes me sound like I don't really care that much.

Well, why should you?

I didn't say it's better not to care at all, but it makes sense to be careful with what you do care about.

I mean, you get attached to something and eventually it goes away, and then you're left with all these awful feelings.

Certainly. I've seen family and friends die just because of the ravages of time enough to know as much. Yet, I don't expect you'll just disappear any time soon.

I hope not, but I only have so many decades left.

Well, this body is mortal now. Eventually it's going to succumb to old age and die. It's terrifying.

Hm. Well... I don't think that's happened to me just yet, that I've suddenly become mortal. That sounds quite strange.

It was strange, and sort of complicated. I was a demon, and then I was human, and then a demon again, and now I'm back to being human.

I blame Giles, mostly. If he hadn't destroyed the source of my power, I could have gone on granting wishes and ruining the lives of mortal men, without feeling the slightest bit bad about it.

Ah. That is quite disappointing. Why would he have done that, though?
