As far as plans went, this wasn't how Colin had wanted to spend this week. There were a lot of things that needed doing even before the plight of the Ura reared its head. But Colin was an engineer, and he knew well that the universe had plans of its own and it really didn't care one little bit of the plans of individual people.

The day before this had been spent doing research, and helping Rob build his new cart. That had taken a fair amount of time on its own, but it was work that needed to be done if they wanted to set up a supply line. Now that the transportation was done, it was time to set up the facilities that would give them the supplies down the line.

So here he was, setting out more stakes and flags, taking more measurements, and generally making it apparent that SOMETHING is going to be going up in this area soon. And if the layout of the flags and stakes are any indication, it's going to be something BIG.

"That would have been me, yes," Colin says, wiping the water from his lips and grinning at her. "They have weapons and numbers. I have secrets. If there's trouble, it won't be a fair fight for them. That said, I prefer peaceful coexistence to fighting people that are just trying to survive."

Avoid throwing the first punch, but always throw the last one. It's been a Starfury motto for as long as he can remember.

The vengeance business would probably have a similar motto. Something involving second punches hitting so hard there can be no third punch.

"When you put it that way, it makes it sound like we'd be the bad guys." Does she sound offended or delighted by this idea? Hard to tell. "Still, I'm not interested in a fight either. Getting injured is immensely unpleasant."

"A great man once said, 'Good, bad, I'm the guy with the gun.'" Colin says smugly. "I respect that wisdom. That said, yeah, peace is better than war. I just like being ready for anything."

"So you're prepared to wipe them all out if we need to?"

"If necessary," Colin says, a serene smile standing completely out of place with the current subject matter. "As I said. I like being ready for ANYTHING. Did they mention that I got eaten at that prison? I had a plan for that."

"I prefer to have plans to avoid getting eaten at all--except in the sexy way--but I can understand how your smug grin might broadcast 'eat me' to a lot of things."

"I've been told I have a very assaultable face," Colin replies, laughing. "But most things think that if they eat you, you're done. They forget that their soft insides aren't covered by armor, and that if they swallow something whole, nasty things can happen."

"Many people are done once they've been eaten. I understand the school's principal was swallowed by our snake mayor, and no one ever saw him walking around again. Of course, I think the entire school was blown up shortly afterwards, so that probably didn't help him to survive."
