[The entire way home, Ippo had been for the most part, silent beyond a few words in response to things said to him. His heart was still beating in his ears and his chest felt like someone had trapped it in a vice.

How loud had he been yelling? How hard had he been pounding on that creature? Everything had gone by in such a blur, he didn't even notice until someone was pulling him off of the dead body so they could drag Colin out. He'd been fine of course, as Colin was wont to be most of the time, but he couldn't shake that raw terror he'd felt watching his friend get swallowed whole. A fear had gripped him so absolutely that even in the face of saving the engineer, he couldn't shake it even now.

His feelings weighed around his neck like chains and even as he came in off the Skyway, he landed hard on one knee, much opposed to his usual, more solid landings.

Even as lost in his thoughts and emotions as he was, he couldn't not notice the small tuft of brightly colored hair poking out from beneath a blanket near the entrance. Had...Ibuki really slept here waiting for him to get back? It was a shock enough to pull him from his thoughts and into the present as he walked over to the blanket and knelt down, putting a hand on Ibuki's shoulder.]

Ibuki...? You shouldn't sleep here, you might catch something.

[His voice sounded distant, even to him, as if he were listening to someone else speak, but the meaning was there all the same. He might have not been here for that plague, but he'd heard about it, and had his own fair share of sickness as well. The last thing he wanted was for Ibuki to come down with something because she was waiting outside for him to get back.]

H-hey, are you that hungry?

[He couldn't help but laugh though, it was kind of adorable after all.]

Oooh, maybe, maybe! You might need to feed Ibuki, Ippo-chan!

[She did make plenty of breakfast, so-]

[He smiled and albeit begrudgingly, pulled away so he could get some of the omelette on a fork which he held out to her.]

Say ahhhhhhh~

[Ibuki obediently opens her mouth wide]

Aaahhh~~

[And in goes the airplane!]

[nomnom, and then she laughs happily, hugging onto Ippo]

Ehehe... Ibuki's so happy right now~

[He shifted enough to spare the tray on his lap, but once that was safe, he hugged back with a laugh of his own.]

I am too, there isn't anywhere else I'd rather be.

[Ibuki laughs again, turning a little red]

Yeah, yeah...! Not even the stage! Ibuki is fine, just right here, with Ippo-chan and breakfast!

R-really?

[That was...almost shocking, really. It was enough to give him a second's pause. He knew how seriously Ibuki took music and being on stage...she had the same passion and drive for it as he had for Boxing, so to hear that was probably the greatest compliment he could have been given.]

Y-yeah! Really!

... w-well, maybe it'd be just a taaaaaad better to be on stage with Ippo-chan? But but...

Really!

We'll get there eventually, right?

[Even if he did have a bit of stage fright...but it couldn't be any worse than being in the boxing ring, right? Besides, if he had Ibuki with him, he was sure everything would turn out just fine.]

[Ibuki laughs happily]

You don't need to thank Ibuki! It's the truth! Ibuki just wants Ippo-chan to know! It's a special thing! Ippo-chan and Ibuki! The best thing ever, right?

[There wasn't even a hint of hesitation either, there were few things that could make him happier and most of them were a ways off...but a man could dream.]

Mm... Ippo-chan has a really nice expression right now...

[And she rubs her nose against Ippo's]

[He returned the gesture, even if he was blushing a bit at the statement...no one had ever commented on his expressions like that before.]

You think? It's only because of you though.

[Ibuki giggles a bit, still a bit red herself]

Ibuki will make sure you have that expression as much as possible, then!

Well you know, they say if your face stays the same way for long enough, it stays that way.

Oooh, but then Ibuki wouldn't be able to make Ippo-chan make the funny shocked expression anymore! Where's the fun in that?

You mean...this one?

[He totally looks like she just said something outlandish, even by her own standards.]

[And she just starts laughing]

[And he'll join in on the laughing.]

[Of course, laughs can't last forever]

Mmm... Ippo-chan.

Who would have thought, the very first person Ibuki met at the Bastion would also be the person she shares her doki dokis with?

[And she lets out a small, happy and nostalgic laugh at that]

[He never saw it coming himself until it had happened, if that said anything.]

That was one heck of a first day though, huh?

... mm... even back then, Ippo-chan really was good to Ibuki. Maybe Ibuki should've seen it coming! Ibuki's never had such amazing chemistry with anybody before Ippo-chan, and she doesn't even know science!

I'm not much for science either really...but either way, even if I did get thrown out of the hospital by my neck...I'm really glad I got to spend that day with you. And all these other days too!
