Ever since he'd been brought to the hospital in the middle of the night by Aradia and the Disciple, the Helmsman has been quiet. His throat has been in no condition to really speak, which had been one thing, but besides that... Any attempts to speak with him have just earned a narrow eyed look and thinned lips, although he'd gone along with attempts to feed him and put him into some cleaner clothes.

Apparently, today's the day that changes because anyone going about their business in the Bastion is liable to notice the gray-skinned and horned alien laying facedown in the middle of the little settlement. The clothes he's wearing are far too big for his food-deprived skinny body but despite what it looks like, he is breathing and is alive.

Don't mind him, he's just gonna be here for a while. If you trip, well, that's your problem. Suck it up.

Okay, he can work with that better. He gives a nod. In time, maybe he can learn to speak once again, but a good few centuries have just had his physical body screaming and crying while his mind did its best to ignore it.

All right. She'll give a little at that response and crouch down.

"Do you need a hand?"

There's a shake of his head. No, he's fine right where he is, thank you. There is, however, another pat of the grass.

Touch it. Touch the green stuff.

Isn't she close enough? What does he expect from her?

"...I'm not joining you. There are plenty of spots to lie in the grass where I won't get stepped on."

[polariity]

...Really? The Helmsman tilts his head a bit in clear question. Honestly, he just flopped down the first open spot he could see after exiting the hospital. There hasn't been a chance to take a tour.

He does give the appearance of someone who just collapsed on the first bit of grass he saw.

"Like by the lake? It's quieter over there."

[polariity]

Lake? As in water? There's an immediate recoil and the start of hissing at the suggestion. He has had enough of water for a lifetime.

Well, she figures that's a reaction to water, but she can't understand why anyone would hate the idea of sitting next to it so much.

"I'm not suggesting you jump in it."

[polariity]

The hissing continues for a few seconds longer before he goes quiet. In it, near it, it doesn't matter. Water is god-awful and he'll go to his death on that. Finally, he just gives a sort of shake of his head.

Sorry, Zuko, your suggestion has been denied.

"Fine. You can lie here and get tripped over."

[polariity]

Just for that, Zuko, the Helmsman is going to reach up with his hand to try and touch you... and send a little zap your way. Nothing worse than a static zap, but still.

All right, weirdo. You may not like water but Zuko has some problems with zapping, and even the little static shock makes her start and draw back.

"What was that for?"

From out of the Helmsman's poor ruined throat emerges a sound that comes out suspiciously like a snigger. In fact, definitely a snigger, because he's now grinning up at the girl.

Zuko returns that grin with a glower, gets back to her feet, and kicks him in the arm.

Granted, it's a light kick, more to express the sentiment of 'you are an asshole' than to inflict any harm. One day she'll pick up curse words.

Wow! How rude! He doesn't really feel it, but he does start making the sad high pitched noises a dog might make when you step on its tail. It would probably be a lot more convincing if he still wasn't sort of grinning.

"I told you you shouldn't lie there." She's tempted to actually step on him, but she's just going to start walking away now.
