Ryu is up and about, his recovery has proceeded quite well for someone in his poor state.  While his physical injuries and balance issues are mostly done and gone, there's still the matter of replacing his gear.  Especially with his sword lost, this has left him with going to the forge, trying out a variety of different weapons.  Even some of the ranged options, which Ryu might have ordinarily never considered before.

It's here people might find him using one of these weapons with varying degrees of success, though he finds himself drawn back to swords whenever he ventures into anything he might consider too exotic.  Perhaps you can help him make up his mind, or just chat it up with one of the resident dragons of the Bastion.

His habits of regaining his physical prowess have led him to try swimming a bit more often, though he's cautious to go out too far into the deep end.  After all, he can't swim very well.  He knows Aoi would be a fine teacher, but he hasn't had a chance to speak with her since his departure onto the Skyway.  He figures she's probably bound to show up sooner or later, given her natural affinity for swimming.

Though while he's trying to get the hang of swimming, he'll welcome any company that might come by the pool to see just who's making all the waves.

Ryu's day after all is said and done closes at the Onsen, where he's keen to relax  in the heat while the aches and pains of his body are soothed.  The times he spends visiting the Onsen are usually in quiet contemplation.  Be it something someone said, the day's events, or whatever it is he tends to mull over in a given day.  If your timing is right, you might catch him in the Onsen, or on his way home.  He's certainly looking a lot better and walking mostly straight without his walking stick.  He seems to be in a good enough mood to talk, at least.

Zuko actually decides to investigate the splashing to see if Aoi is there, but Ryu's is also a welcome face. She'll wait near the side of the pool until he pauses from his... attempt at swimming.

"Do you know what you're doing?"

"Absolutely!" He answers, floating on his back. He seems particularly proud of himself until he bumps his head into the side of the pool. The sudden thud hurts and sort of catches him off guard, causing him to flail and sink. He regains his footing since he's in the shallow end, and he rises and looks up at Zuko.

"Okay, maybe not."

Another person might have laughed. Zuko just raises her eyebrow.

"Well, at least this is a good place to learn." Not that the lake or river are exceptionally deep, but Aoi's pool is definitely a more controlled environment.

[dragonform]

"I have to be honest, most of my experience with swimming is just not sinking." He answers after a moment. He's not really ashamed to admit it, since he's trying to improve. "Were you coming to swim too?" It occurs to him he might be disturbing other people with all the noise. He hopes it wasn't the case.

"It's an important first step." She's only half-joking because it's basically true.

At his question, she looks a little awkward. "Maybe. I thought Aoi might be here."

[dragonform]

"I was kinda hoping she would be here too. She's really good at swimming, so I was hoping she could give me a few pointers." He chimes in without skipping a beat. If he perceives any awkwardness on Zuko's part, he doesn't say anything. He just chalks it up to Zuko being Zuko.

"Though now I kinda feel bad for getting your hopes up." He answers with a slight smile, taking to slowly wading through water deep enough to come up to his chest.

Kitten is bored this evening. Currently wandering around the Bastion looking for something to do, she's poking her snout places she usually doesn't. When she sees the multitude of stones in the onsen, Kitten hatches a plan to entertain herself once the sun goes down.

In the meantime, she probably ought to say hello. "How deep is the water there? Is there a section where I might keep my head above the surface?" Kitten, you see, can't swim. It's the reason she has never spent any time around the onsen before.

Ryu motions to an area not too far from him. The stone in the water seems to rise up compared to where he's sitting. "There should be enough there for you to keep your head above the water." Compared to where Ryu is sitting, the water is deep enough to come up to his collar bone.

[skysung]

"Thank you," she says, sliding into the water with a slight splash. "I have not visited here before. I like the stones. There are so many, and they are not all the same variety of rock. Do you come often?"

[windgod]

[Well, Ippo had been out and about helping to keep the Bastion tidy when he saw his friend by the forge testing out some weapons; considering he'd lost his sword, it seemed like he was testing his hand at some other options too. Either way, it was good to see him back in fighting shape, so he'd approach with a smile and his hand raised.]

Too restless to stay in bed, huh?

[dragonform]

You know me, I just can't stay down.

[He grins at Ippo.]

Not sure I can take your punches just yet, but maybe soon.

[windgod]

Well hopefully you won't just let me hit you if I start throwing punches.

[Ippo gave a small laugh and gave Ryu a few pats on the shoulder; it was nice to see him on his feet after all he'd been through. He'd right scared the daylights out of him on the skyway between the dragon form and how beat up he was.]

Have you found anything that's caught your fancy yet?

I still feel like a sword is my best bet. It's what I grew up using, y'know?

[amphibian]

[DID SOMEONE CALL FOR AN OVEREAGER SWIMMER

Because here comes Aoi at a sprint, bursting through the doors and cannonballing right into the deep end.

It's only after she surfaces, grinning, that she acknowledges that there are other people here.] Hi, Ryu!

[dragonform]

[He's surprised when Aoi appears, as she's something of a blur to him while he's relaxed with his guard down. When she jumps in, he rolls over just in time to get a face full of water. All of his ordinarily spiky hair flops over his eyes.]

I was hoping I'd find you here.

[amphibian]

[She can't help but giggle juuust a little at the way all his hair just droops.]

Really? Well, here I am! How come?

[dragonform]

[It looks like a big blue mop, to be honest.]

I wanted to learn how to swim better. I was hoping you could teach me.

[amphibian]

Oh! Well, you've found the right girl! They don't call me a Super High School Level Swimmer for nothing! [She beams and pushes herself to the nearest pool's edge, hefting herself up to take a seat there.] Better means you already swim a li'l bit, though, right? So show me how well you can swim right now!

[dragonform]

Alright! [He nods and sets about trying to swim a lap. He's okay, but he definitely isn't gonna make any speed records. It's pretty clear he isn't used to swimming.]

[dragonsorcsandwolves]

[The onsen already has an occupant when Ryu enters, a rather bruised man soaking after a trip to the Skyway. Rob looks up when he hears someone enter and raises a hand out of the water in greeting.]

[dragonform]

[Well, this is a new face. He's a little surprised to see anyone new after such a long time, but the surprise is not unwelcome. He takes a seat near the stranger, settling into the water.]

I didn't think we'd ever see anyone else surviving out there. It makes me really glad to see a new face, I'm Ryu.

[dragonsorcsandwolves]

[He nods at Ryu. When he speaks his voice is low enough that he's hard to hear if Ryu isn't paying attention.]

Rob. [A pause.] Got here a bit under two weeks ago.

[dragonform]

[Fortunately for Rob, Ryu is remarkably attentive.]

I'm glad you got here safely. If you ever need anything, you can come to me or anyone else on the Bastion for help. We're really all that seems to be left as far as a village goes.

[And the frown makes it clear the idea sits none too well with him.]

So I've heard. This place seems to be doing reasonably well for itself though, all things considered.

[dragonform]

[He nods.]

Though the good fortune does worry me. I don't think there's anyone left to threaten the Bastion, but I still worry about the lives of people here.
