[Day 213] Templates follow all around [OPEN]

Where: Various places in the Bastion where there are walls to be stared at.
What: There is a strange tall kid with a sketch book staring at walls. No, he's not broken, but you'll have to ask what he's doing if you really want to know.

[Haruka likely did a good job of making himself known as "that kid with the bottomless pit for a stomach" at the feast yesterday, but he does have other talents. Mostly to do with that nearly full sketch book he's been toting around everywhere.

It's in his possession yet again, tucked beneath his arm as he wanders silently around the Bastion, stopping only to stare at blank walls on the outside of buildings before abruptly moving on to another one.

Dare you ask what this strange child is doing?]

[While Haruka is busy surveying a wall, Colin is hauling several items out to the dragonfield. On this third trip past Haruka, though, curiosity finally gets the best of him.]

Oh! Hello, Starfury-san! I was trying to figure out if there was any way I could do murals on the walls here. But... I don't really have the supplies for it.

Paints shouldn't be too hard to come by, really. If nothing else, we can spare some shards for it in a little while.

You've got some ideas for murals?

[Colin strolls up to Haruka and glances to the sketchbook questioningly.]

I do feel bad that I have to keep asking for shards... but I know I can't really go out there, either.

[Meaning the Skyway.]

I do. I'd be willing to take suggestions, too.

[Colin waves it off gently, and he gives Haruka a smile]

Don't you worry about that. As long as I keep going out there, I'll have shards to spare. But I know we have people here who work with plants, so we can probably get pigments and paints quite easily.

[He glances at Haruka's sketchbook idly, still smiling.]

I'm a bit eccentric with my art. About the only non-abstract things I enjoy are representations of speed, and fire. Reds, oranges, yellows. Hot, wild colors.

Probably not all that relaxing for the rest of the Bastion, really...

Well it doesn't have to be relaxing exactly. Just something nice to look at. Maybe even something exciting! A reminder that we're still alive and there's a lot we can do for this place!

Hey, if you wanna paint something that I'd like looking at, I would absolutely love to see it!

[He smiles, and reaches out to pat Haruka's shoulder.]

Anything I can help you to get for this? Some things might be difficult, but I figure I can keep my eyes open for you.

Well, paint and brushes would be a good start.

Brushes will probably be found in the residential or market areas... Definitely a spot where we'll be doing salvage runs. I can keep my eyes open for that. Paint... will be a little rarer. I imagine that most paints to survive the calamity will be drying out by now.

Is there any way to make paints?

I confess that I'm not an expert on making paints, but I can look it up. I imagine it has to do with a couple of simple compounds, finding the right dyes, and generally just making sure you've got color, permanence, and adhesion to the mix...

[Colin strokes his chin thoughtfully.]

Interesting reading I've set up for myself, really... Would you care to learn about that too? I can put the books you'd need on the pad I gave you and Takane... I suspect you're not the only one who'd appreciate the availability of paints.

Sure! If I could make my own paints that would make things a lot easier! I'd just need to get brushes and some other supplies. And probably something to stand on for the higher parts of the wall.
