[Day 213] Templates follow all around [OPEN]

Where: Various places in the Bastion where there are walls to be stared at.
What: There is a strange tall kid with a sketch book staring at walls. No, he's not broken, but you'll have to ask what he's doing if you really want to know.

[Haruka likely did a good job of making himself known as "that kid with the bottomless pit for a stomach" at the feast yesterday, but he does have other talents. Mostly to do with that nearly full sketch book he's been toting around everywhere.

It's in his possession yet again, tucked beneath his arm as he wanders silently around the Bastion, stopping only to stare at blank walls on the outside of buildings before abruptly moving on to another one.

Dare you ask what this strange child is doing?]

[She's quite used to people doing strange things, but that doesn't mean she's not curious. Because she is super curious. And so Edea follows Haruka until he stops at the next wall, keeping a few paces back. She rocks on her feet a little as she speaks now.]

May I ask why you're taking such a tour of the buildings?

[He had been fairly involved in whatever the hell it is he's doing, so by that he hadn't noticed at all that he was being followed. Her voices makes him jump a little, but he turns with a surprised smile once the initial shock has worn off.]

I'm trying to figure out if I can paint a mural on any of them. But... I don't really have any supplies for it, so it's just an idea right now.

So you're an artist...

[It's said more to herself than Haruka. And it explains a bit, actually. One of the people she grew up with is a great artist, even if they don't talk about it much. She nods, smiling back while tilting her head.]

What sort of supplies would you need?

Well... paint, for sure. But probably some sort of scaffolding that I could stand on for the higher parts.

[A flip through his sketch book showed he had very few blank pages left.]

Probably another sketch book as well...

Hm... probably things you'd need shards for. Are you able to go on the Skyway at all?

[It's obvious that not everyone is going to have the combat experience Edea does, but other than that she has no base idea of what other Bastion residents are capable of out there.]

No. I wish I could, but I wouldn't last a second out there.

[And sadly it's not an issue of combat so much as it is his health.]

Well that puts a damper on things, doesn't it? You're welcome to some of mine, if you'd like them.

[She hasn't thought of much she'd want to redeem her shards for. Better that someone put them to good use.]

Are you sure? I would feel bad just... taking them.

[Colin had already given him a lot of things without really being prompted to and he felt he owed the man quite a lot for it.]

I... could draw you something in return, if you'd like?

"Taking them" almost implies that I didn't offer them up first. It's not a problem, most... most of what I really want they can't get me anyway.

[Which is why she'd been out on the Skyway looking for what she wanted instead. At most the shards would have gotten her some different clothes or a new weapon. She wouldn't mind either of those things, but she can always get those later. Her current combat gear is still in good shape.]

You can if you want, but I'm not expecting anything.

Oh... that's true.

[There's a lot Haruka wishes he could have (mostly things for Takane, rather than himself) but not being able to go out on the Skyway at all certainly makes things difficult for him.

Still being able to draw and do art at all keeps his mind off it at least.]

I wouldn't mind! It's only right to give something in exchange for that.

If that's how you feel about it. I'm sure it'll be wonderful.

[Now she's shifting her weight between her feet, having already hit her limit for standing still. This is what happens when you were constantly on the move in your home world.]

So what are you thinking of painting?

[Haruka is far more used to being stationary. He doesn't notice her shifting much, though.]

I'm not really sure yet! It was just a thought I had the other day, I haven't really gotten past the planning stage yet.

Hm, I don't think I can make any suggestions. But I'm sure you'd get plenty from the others if you asked around.

[There does seem to be an interesting bunch of people here, if their gatherings are any indication.]

I guess you could think of the shards as my contribution instead.

[Even Haruka has realized the Bastion seems to be a menagerie of the strange, unusual and unique from the various worlds.]

[She grins wide while giving Haruka a little wave. Someone's off to the Skyway again.]

I'll probably have more shards by then.

[Haruka returns the wave with a polite bow, letting her get back to the Skyway while he heads off to make more mural-related decisions.]
