[Day 212] Well it woulda been coulda been worse than you would ever know... [OPEN]
Who: Everyone!
Open: Open
When: Day 212, evening
Where: in front of the Distillery
What: No one died during the horrible plague scare! That's reason enough for a feastand a mingle log right?
Format: Any!
Warnings: Shouldn't be any but will adjust if needed

[Someone has been busy today. The kitchen and Distillery has been noisy and bustling, a departure from the much more quiet days when the illness was spreading through the Bastion and survival was once more on the uncertain scale of things. Somewhere around the time that the night cycle begins, when the sky is more of an orange-ish glow fading in to blue and purple, a large spread of food has been set up near the Distillery with glass lanterns hanging overhead.
Just like any other time there has been a feast be it random or planned, there is a wide selection of food on the covered, decorated tables. There's even meat this time! And yes, Aoi, your doughnuts have been transferred from your trees to a platter on the table. There's even a section for Paar, complete with massive amounts of bbq'd mammoth meat! You can thank Colin for that.
There's really no announcement for the feast, but chances are if you're outside at any point today you'll see the progress towards the set up, or smell the delicious scents wafting over the Bastion. (There might even be music playing, if Colin finds a way to provide it!)
Either way, come dusk food will be ready and mingling will be had!]
(ooc: Standard mingle log right here. Throw your threads up, poke other people's threads, and eat all the food!)

[He reaches out to pat her shoulder.]
Even at reduced efficiency, you're doing a hell of a job.

Duke didn't listen to that advice. And she wound up with what I suspect is Bronchitis.
[Colin makes a face.]
I'm going to bring her some of this feast in a little while...
no subject
[Huff.]
... is Duke gonna be okay?
no subject
[In a true show of maturity, Colin sticks his tongue out at her.]
She's not happy, but she got to the hospital immediately when she noticed something was wrong. She should be fine, but she's not gonna be much for physical activity for at least a week. IF she listens to her doctors.
... If you see her trying to go out onto the skyway anytime in the next week, tackle her for me, would you?
no subject
So mature, Rin.]
I ain't gonna tackle a sick person. I can make her go back to the hospital without breakin' her bones.
no subject
[Colin gives Rin a grin, and he shakes his head then.]
Point is, she pushed herself when she shouldn't have. And knowing what I know about Duke, she's likely to do it again.
She needs REST. Not exertion.
no subject
Then I'll tell her that. Like I said I ain't gonna tackle some one who's sick just cause they're tryin' to get some air. Geez...
no subject
[Colin sighs and pinches the bridge of his nose.]
It was a figure of speech, Rin... Duke's being dumb, and we need to stop her from being dumb. That's all.

no subject
Enjoy your party, Rin.
[Colin's patience has been frayed recently. And Rin seems to have hit a nerve. Yep, Colin's just going to excuse himself to check on equipment now.]
no subject
Hey.
[You're not getting away that easily, Colin. For as much as Rin tries to keep up the "I really dislike you" act, it's pretty much become just that by now - an act. They are friends, regardless of how he grates on her nerves, and it's because of that reason that she actually doesn't get pissy for his attempted departure.
Because she's actually concerned.]
What's with you?
no subject
I'm REALLY not in the mood to get in a fight over keeping someone from killing herself. During a big event where it would be inappropriate. AGAIN.
I've only got so much to give, and right now I'm running just a little low on patience...
no subject
[Hesitant as it was, she meant it. She hadn't come over there to push his buttons, even if that's exactly what happened.]
I'll look out for her, okay?
no subject
It's okay, I guess. You didn't know. I'm not exactly easy to read.
And thanks.
[He turns to face her completely, and he gives a frustrated wave of his hand off to his side.]
I just... I'm tired, you know? Me and Yukio keep everyone alive, and it feels like it's not good enough for some people.
I bring the cure to plague the Ura, and I feel like everyone would rather I never leave my workshop.
I patch Ahime up after she was at the epicenter of a gods damned dynamite explosion, and it's as though her first thought is what sort of diplomatic corpse-fuck I made in her absence.
I'm not a social butterfly, but I think I deserve a little more credit than THAT...
no subject
Some people are gonna push themselves no matter what you do, it ain't a reflection on what you or Yukio did or how grateful or ungrateful they are.
I'm sure the Ura are grateful that you extended a hand in help and not violence, even if not everyone agrees with how you went about it or whatever the hell happened there.
Ahime-san was like some high ranking political figure in her home world, of course she's gonna be worried about that.
And yes, you do. But you can't force anyone to think or feel a different way, y'know.
[That said, she lets out an amused sigh and shakes her head, crossing her arms over her chest.]
Look just 'cause I don't always get along with you don't mean I ain't grateful for the shit you've done. You've pulled my ass outta the fire a ton, not to mention everyone else you've helped around here. Don't take it so damn personally, 'kay? We're at the end of the world tryin' to figure out how to make a workin' community outta nothin'. It ain't gonna be all sunshine and fuckin' rainbows.
no subject
I can only take so much, y'know... And trying to keep everyone's spirits up isn't easy, especially when many of them are refusing on sheer principle.
no subject
And here you were, bein' so damn... I'unno the word but you were behavin' like it was just a minor inconvenience for you. And sayin' that you could get home at any time.
That probably left a pretty bad impression on a lotta people, y'know? I know it's different now, but...
[the point still stands - first impressions are everything, and Colin had a pretty horrid one.]
But... that said, it ain't your job to keep anyone's spirits up. You gotta take care of yourself, too.
no subject
[He reaches down to pat his wrist computer.]
I expect... [He trails off briefly, and he shakes his head.] I expect that I'll continue to make impressions like that on everyone. Just how I am.
It gets me, though, because if I didn't care about the lot of you, I wouldn't be feeling the way I am right now. But yeah, I've figured that last part out.
I'm going to be using more of my time for personal projects, things that work for me... Not all my time, mind you. You guys still need a good engineer. But I gotta get my work done, or I'm gonna go crazy.
no subject
[Workaholic little brother.]
Just don't vanish forever... y'may make a habit of pissin' me off but... I'unno, I kinda like havin' some one to argue with that doesn't get all butt hurt over it.
[It's not like she likes you or anything, Colin.]
no subject
[Colin smirks at her.]
Even if I'm taking it easy on you?
[There's a hint of a sing-song, teasing note to his voice. It's small, he'd have to be in a better mood to really try poking at her buttons.]
But... I may need to recruit you for something a little later. On the note of "Vanishing forever", the plague did make me realize that we've kinda put all our eggs in one basket here. We NEED a fallback position... A place we can run to if, for whatever reason, we lose the Bastion. I've got a few thoughts on that... But it'll take some work.
no subject
[Beeeh~]
... I agree with you.
[Oh no Rin actually agrees with Colin clearly she's gotten sick again.]
no subject
But there's a lot of wildlife there. The Squirts and Gasfellas, I need to be able to negotiate with them. And we'll need to figure out how to keep the birds at bay.
And we also need to know who the heck has been out there besides us. So... yeah, when I finally get around to it, I'm going to need a translator. Will you be up to it?
no subject
But she knew she had to get over those hurdles, or no one was going to be able to move forward without her help...]
Yeah. I can do it.
no subject
Don't worry, Rin. I've been making forays into peace with them. And somehow, it seems to be working. Squirts and Gasfella have been leaving me alone when I've gone out there.
With a few more gifts, and a skilled translator, we might be able to work something out with them long-term.
As long as people don't go out and hunt them indiscriminately.
[There's a small roll of his eyes there. He knows that a fair amount of people view squirts as easy sources of shards, and it REALLY irritates him.]
