lap five // day 198 (open)
Who: Aoi and anybody!
Open: Open!
When: Day 198; late afternoon/early evening.
Where: At Aoi's new pool.
What: THERE'S A POOL HERE! A POOL!!! A POOL!!!!!
Format: Action tags, please!
Warnings: N/A, probably
THE POOL'S HEEEEEERE!
[—is what everyone is going to hear as Aoi sprints across the Bastion. She flings her sweatshirt off, leaves it on the ground as she goes, and launches herself through the doors of the new building not far from the forge.
Anyone nearby will hear a resounding SPLASH through the doors, left wide open, as Aoi cannonballs into the deep end of the pool, shorts and tank top and all.
If anyone checks in on her, she's swimming rapid laps from one end of the pool to the other down the middle of the center lane, pausing at the ends every now and again to laugh, absolutely delighted, and wave at anyone who's shown up.] C'mon in, the water's fine!

[ SPLASHING WARS
But when he finally stops splashing, he laughs more quietly this time, relaxing as he floats on the water's surface. ]
It's not so bad once you get used to it, huh...?

[ Naegi grins quietly, closing his eyes and floating around for a bit. This was relaxing...
... he then blinks as he shifts a little, looking at Asahina curiously. ]
You know, I don't think I got to see you do any swimming while we were back in Hope's Peak, now that I think of it.
... can I ask how fast you are?

[For the slightest flicker of a moment, Aoi almost looks bashful, but the excited glimmer in her eyes takes over her whole expression as she nods and slowly makes her way to the pool wall, picks herself up over it, and stands with her toes lined up with the very edge, centering herself with the lane.
She's had a couple of races today already, but Naegi asked how fast she is, so who's she to give him anything less than her speediest?
She takes a deep breath in and exhales it as she shakes out her limbs. With another breath in, she crouches into her start position. There's no kickstand, but she'll make due.
The trick is to count the seconds until the buzzer (and only she's going to hear it, but that's enough). Three, two, one—
And she hits the water with a resounding SPLASH, legs writhing and pushing her forward, arms pointed in front of her, fingertips reaching, until she's risen enough that the back of her head pokes out of the surface and she's able to stroke to the beat of her thundering heart.
Her focus stays on the count of her breaths and the sight of the opposite wall. With nothing else in her thoughts, she can almost imagine a proper meet, a crowd...
She hits the end and turns herself around as best she can in the shallow water, kicking off against the wall, imagining ten opponents at her sides doing the same crucial seconds after her.
Her chest clenches thinking of the imaginary swimmers gaining on her, her own momentum dying in between strokes. It's been so long since she's raced properly that for these moments it's real. Every last part of her body knows this routine and everything that comes with it—even her heart, even every single nerve and synapse.
Reignited instincts are all but sure there's someone right beside her, nearly ahead of her, and she pushes that much harder.
This time when she meets the wall, fifty meters and not quite thirty seconds later, she stops, grabbing the pool's edge for support so she can catch her breath. Her first instinct is to glance up in search of a scoreboard—but that's right, she remembers, shoulders slumping; there's no meet, no score, no crowd, because those things are gone. Her team, her school, and everything else with them.
But wow, she's never felt closer to flying without being in the air.
She spins around to face Naegi, breathing hard and grinning wide.] That fast!

Naegi more or less remains enthralled at Asahina as she... well, it would be an understatement to say that she glided through the water. To him, it seemed more like she was one with the water; she commanded it, and it obeyed her.
Such was the ability of the SHSL swimmer. It really didn't hit him until now just how well that suited Asahina until he'd seen her performance. In fact, everything about her seemed to suit her.
It takes him a few moments to properly respond - she'd been so absorbed in the speed that for a moment he was afraid of snapping her out of her dream - but when she does speak up, he can only nod in amazement and slowly clap while he's treading water. ]
W-wow... you really are the Super High School Level Swimmer, Asahina-san...
[ He goes quiet; this only makes him realize that he's not entirely sure if he's even supposed to be with them, at Hope's Peak. He doesn't even know why he's there, aside from the lottery.
The faraway look lasts long enough for Asahina to catch it, but he shakes it off and grins. ]
It'd be nice if I could move through the water the way you do... it's like you command the water itself, in a way...!
