THE POOL'S HEEEEEERE!

[—is what everyone is going to hear as Aoi sprints across the Bastion. She flings her sweatshirt off, leaves it on the ground as she goes, and launches herself through the doors of the new building not far from the forge.

Anyone nearby will hear a resounding SPLASH through the doors, left wide open, as Aoi cannonballs into the deep end of the pool, shorts and tank top and all.

If anyone checks in on her, she's swimming rapid laps from one end of the pool to the other down the middle of the center lane, pausing at the ends every now and again to laugh, absolutely delighted, and wave at anyone who's shown up.] C'mon in, the water's fine!

[Seeing Aoi so energetic always kind of pleases Patchouli. It means things haven't gone completely belly-up. She follows after her slowly.]

Wow. This must have cost quite a bit...

[amphibian]

A small building's five hundred shards! [She doesn't pause her backstroke as she speaks, but she waits until she hits the end of the pool nearest the doorway to flip herself back around and face Patchouli, grinning, before she continues.]

Honestly, I have a lot and I haven't been sure what to do with 'em... But I wish I got this earlier! I've missed pools!

I see... [With her stockpile, she could probably buy a lot, couldn't she?]

Well to be fair, I have seen you out there a fair number of times. I've been steadily gathering a small collection of my own as well, surely I can put them to some sort of use.

[amphibian]

Ah, I try to go every day! It's real good exercise! [She props her elbows up against he pool's edge and rises to rest her head in her hands, looking contemplative.] You should spend them on something nice! Like a cute swimsuit so you can come swimming with me! Or a place with something fun to do! Or—oh, Patchouli, I bet you could get a whole bunch of different books! [She still remembers her mentioning a destroyed library, months and months ago...]

Yes, that is true. Plus, I certainly don't mind the water. I lived near a lake, which I... don't remember if I ever told you.

[She sighs, almost inaudibly. Lately, thinking about her past has just been annoying her, probably because the Bastion seems to like randomly bring up that the closest person whose name she knew is dead.]

Well, I'm sure that I will find a use for them quite easily. Plus, I don't think a swimsuit would be too hard. I could stand new clothing in general.

[amphibian]

You didn't! I used to live near the ocean, y'know. [With a sigh, she lets herself sink in the water, folding her arms against the pool edge and lying her head against them.] I think I've always liked pools better, though.

[Beaming again, she springs right back up, leaning forward.] You could get a whole new wardrobe! Remember to get practical stuff too, though. You've got, like, tee-shirts that won't get ruined if you wear it in here though, right?

Quite understandably. There's less of a chance of being attacked by something living in the water in those cases, just for starters.

Well, um... [No, no she doesn't. That's probably a good idea, though. Also, if she's getting new clothes, she probably doesn't care if this gets ruined. So if she should fall in for some reason...]

Well, there's no way to have a proper competition in a pool!

[She pouts, displeased.] Really? Ggh, no one here has anything practical! Well, you can borrow something of mine. Or— [Suddenly, a grin. A you-should-be-worried-Patchouli kind of grin.] If you're gonna get new clothes, it's okay to swim in that anyway, isn't it?

Yeah, I... guess that's true, yes.

[Hey, wait a minute...]

Aoi, what are you going to do... Aoi...

[amphibian]

[HAHAHAHA SHE GOT APPROVAL

She's already climbing over the edge of the pool and onto solid ground.]

If that's the case—! [And with a MIGHTY BATTLE CRY, she runs right at Patchouli and scoops her up into her arms like a bride, then wastes absolutely no time in leaping back into the pool.]

[SPLASH. She braced herself probably more than she really needed to. As if Aoi would let her get hurt, right.]

Oh my. This is very...

[amphibian]

[Of course not! Which is why she waits until after they've emerged, Aoi all giggles and grins, to make sure Patchouili's relaxed enough that Aoi can let go of her tight grip and let her float on her own.]

See! The water's great!

Of course. Just... just slightly cold at first.

[Don't worry, she starts floating on her own right away. As usual, honestly.]

I should be fine now, though.

[amphibian]

Everyone's always whining about the water being cold! You're too soooooft. [Not everyone's ridiculous enough to wear shorts all winter, Aoi, you shut up.] You must be the type who catches lots of colds in the winter, too, right, Patchouli?

Not really, no. I think I'm just... so used to the weather here. It used to be colder back home.

[She may or may not be making excuses, though.]

Mhmmmmmmm. Sounds to me like you're getting soft! It's no good to get used to things being all cozy, 'cause then you aren't ready if things get chilly!
