Day 174 | [CLOSED] The pictures in his mind arose and began to breathe.

Where: The Skyway, in that convenient chunk of True Cross that's still lingering.
What: Siblings are reunited. Put on your hard hats, this can't possibly end well.

[This was impossible. Completely unthinkable.

Yukio closed his eyes for a moment and took several deep breaths, trying to still the trembling in his hands and block out the unbelievable world around him by focusing on the things he knew to be true. The things he remembered. Falling down the funnel and into the darkness below, hearing the snarls of approaching zombies and the frightened shouts of his team (his students, his brother), and then... nothing.

He opened his eyes again, but nothing had changed. Those unreliable organs were insisting that he'd fallen through the floor of a shopping center and into... another shopping center. But there was no ceiling above, not even the pipe he'd fallen through. Only sky, and all around scattered chunks of rock and concrete leading to a street that Yukio had once known like the back of his hand. A street that should have been hundreds of miles from Inari. Not that something so trivial as distance would matter in a place there the ground was not actually the ground, but pieces of land suspended in mid-air by nothing.

He shook his head. Impossible.

He tucked his flashlight away, but kept his gun at the ready as he carefully ventured toward shops that were both familiar and strange at the same time. Where was his team? Where was he? If this was supposed to be True Cross (no, it couldn't be), where was everyone? What sort of trick was this?]

... Is anyone there?

[...damnit Rin. They're going to have to have a talk again, aren't they?

Bon just sighs in annoyance when he hears that Rin was out on the Skyway again. Though it's good that she was out there after all, since she found Yukio in the process.]

It's nothing, you'd do the same for me.

We live in the tall apartment building, in 5B. If you want food, go over there- [He points to the Distillery.] -and ask around. We've been pooling resources instead of having everyone cook for themselves, since anything besides fruits and vegetables is pretty rare here.

[What else...]

Oh yeah, there's dragons living here. Don't attack them, they're friendly.

[Welcome to Yukio's world, Bon. Prepare to spend the rest of forever trying to keep Rin from doing all the things.

He tucks all that information away for later use, though he's not sure just what he wants to do yet. The information dump has left him anything but hungry. Maybe he should just have a look around the Bastion. Talk to some more people, check things out for himself.

The mention of dragons earns Bon a raised eyebrow, but after everything else? It's not all that shocking. Not when you come from a world with demon whale gods and you just took your first trip on the wind.]

Ah. Alright... Are there many?

There's two with human intelligence, who live out on the huge field by the apartment buildings. The rest are small and more like dogs than people.

[So yes. There's lots. But yes, Yukio exploring and talking to people would be good too.]

[Well that's... kinda weird, but it really says something about the kind of day you've been having when little wandering dragons are the least strange thing around.

Yukio nods.]

Thank you for telling me. I think I'm going to go have a look around... Find out a few things for myself.

[Bon nods in return.]

I'll come by later, in case you need anything.

[But for now, he's going to go check on Rin and make sure she's okay.]

[Probably a good idea. She can bandage other people just fine, but getting her own legs where the injuries were the worst is proving difficult.

He'll find her in the hospital on a bed, opened gauze and other supplies scattered around her and a few stained bandages already tossed to the side along with some bloodied towels.

She's not crying but she's pretty damn upset.]

When he sees Rin there, he wordlessly goes over to start bandaging her up. He's not as good at it as Yukio is, but it'll probably turn out better than any attempt Rin herself could make.

Also he's being quiet, to see if Rin will say anything first.]

[She's not going to argue with him on that, and she's equally as quiet as she lets him take over.]

... I grew up there. If it'd been Kyoto you'd probably wanna go back, too.

[Lame excuse, but its the only one she can come up with.]

[Hum de dum, focusing on bandages right now. His voice is actually calm right now, because talking with Yukio gave him time to get over being angry.]

You could have asked me, though. I would have gone with you.

You were asleep. I... couldn't. I tried to sleep last night but I couldn't. I just keep thinkin' about it. About what we found...

[Oh no Rin noooo don't think sad thoughts.

Instead, as Bon finishes with that bandage, he'll try to bring Rin's focus onto something else.]

It looks like you found something else there, today.

[Sad thoughts. :c ]

[She's not exactly happy about that, Bon.]

[Now he's moved on to cleaning up the dirty bandages and other supplies.]

Maybe it's trying to tell you that the True Cross you found isn't your True Cross.

I know you're tryin' to make me feel better but the way everythin' has gone here, it's not exactly givin' me a lotta confidence in that whole "I survived over other people" thing...

I don't think anyone's gained any confidence in that area.

[As far as he knows, everyone who has survived has felt guilt. Why them over everyone else? That is a feeling everyone here can understand.]

But if you want to go back again, let me go with you next time.

[True. She's not going to argue that point, even if she still feels crappy over... all of it.]

Okay... even if it's ass o'clock in the mornin'?

As long as we have tea or coffee or something first.

[Falling asleep on the Skyway would be a very bad thing.]

[It would be.

Rin grins at that, leaning forward to give him a kiss.]

I'll make you breakfast in payment.

[Sorry to ruin your moment, guys, but something's rustling over by the doorway.

Yukio had a few more questions to ask Bon, clarifications on the new shard one of the locals had given him not long after he and the monk had parted ways, and since the hospital was the last place he saw Bon heading for...

There's now a very wide-eyed exorcist standing by the door, the image of Rin and Bon kissing burning deep into his mind.]

[You know how sometimes you can feel that something is wrong even before you see or hear anything? That's exactly what happened to Bon. He was leaning in, about to kiss Rin, when he felt something that made him stop short.

Then he heard the rustling, and he practically dove across the room to put space between him and Rin. Because despite all the progress he and Rin have made on actually being a couple, all of that is ruined by the fact that it was Yukio, of all people, who saw that kiss.]

Okumura-sensei!

[He wants to just go crawl in a hole and die now. He can't even feel anything, besides shock and panic.]

[You're not the only one who wants to dive in to a hole and die right now, Bon. Even if this wasn't the Yuki she was used to, it was still... a version of her sibling and that's enough for her to feel her face go as red as a tomato.

While Bon damn near rockets across the room, Rin just lets out a terrified yelp and ducks her head down, fumbling with words until she can shriek something... very Rin-like.]

Ch-christ, don't know you how to knock?!

[The door wasn't even closed, Rin. Who knocks on an open door?]

[Rin and Bon were kissing. Or about to kiss. And did he hear something about breakfast? It doesn't matter that this Rin isn't the sibling he knows, or even that Rin is kissing somebody. It's just that it's Rin and Bon and-





Nope, he can't handle this right now. In the last thirty minutes Yukio lost his family, his job, and his entire world, and there's just no room in his mind at the moment for Rin and Bon's definitely non-violent face contact.

His mouth opens and closes a few times before he just... turns and walks away.]

[Bon doesn't even try to go after him. Instead he just stares at the empty doorway, half-expecting Yukio to run back in and threaten him or shoot him or something. Bon's had dragoon classes, he knows how scary Yukio can be.

That silence will last a long time before he speaks again.]

...I probably should've mentioned that to him.

[hellpyre]

[It probably would have been worse if he'd tried. Yukio looked 1000% done with everything ever. And Rin really can't blame him.]

Would it really have been any better?

Probably better than finding out by walking in on us like that.

[Bon sighs in exasperation as he rubs at his face with a hand.]

He walked in right as we were talking about breakfast too. Shit, I bet he thinks we're sleeping together.
