Day 161 - Something's nasty...something's foul...

Who: Raile and whoever wants to stumble over this sick kid.
When: Day 161
Where:
The Monument, and perhaps other places in the Bastion.
What: Raile is really, really sick and needs help badly.
Format:
Any you can think of is fine with me.
Warnings:
Body squickiness, sickness, serious discussions most likely.

[There was something incredibly off, Raile could tell the minute he opened his eyes that things weren't normal about him; the right side of his face felt like it was being crushed and stabbed at the same time...like someone had covered a hammer head in zulwood oil. As well, his entire body was hot to the point where he was sweating profusely and that same crushing feeling extended down to his chest, making his breathing nothing short of a labored chore; everything part of him ached and his insides felt like they were on fire. Simply keeping his eyes open hurt and caused his world to spin right along with his stomach. Against his better judgement, Raile stood up from his bed roll--only to fall flat on his face without any help from the Skyway; it took him a few tries, but he eventually got to his carbine which he used as a crutch as he began to walk towards the center of the Bastion.

If anything, his mind was so wracked with pain and the urge to be sick that he could hardly have come up with any solid plan on where he was going; but his body sure as heck knew where it needed to go...at best, he was heading in the general direction of Zulf's tent, not that his body would be able to carry him that far. Every step his took made his world spin harder and sent an ache that pierced right through his bones; Raile was a tough kid, but even the strongest man alive had his limits...he only got as far as the monument before he collapsed once again, his rifle clattering off to the side. He could no longer keep his eyes open out of the pain the light of the sun sent through his head, so he shut his eyes and used the last of his strength to prop his back against the metal construct that rested in the center of the Bastion.

It's hum was somewhat comforting, but it did little to ease his pain as he sat against it and did his best just to breath deep, ragged breaths. He'd never felt like this in his life...and if someone didn't find him here soon, this might very well be the last time he felt like this...or felt anything at all.

[He shrugs a little bit at the compliments. He's really not used to them, or being the center of... anyone's attention, really.]

No one owes me anything. I'm just glad that he's okay.

[He reaches down to rub at his bad knee, trying to massage the muscle a bit.]

I'm also glad I didn't break a rib or something when I was doing CPR.

[But better a broken rib than letting someone die.]

[Colin eyes his knee, and he smirks slightly]

Put your leg out, lemme give that a once-over. A psilon I used to work with taught me some massage techniques to help after long days hauling heavy materials. It'll probably help here.

[He moves to crouch in front of AZ.]

You could also probably use a nice, long soak in the Onsen. Some heat always helps after a long day.

[He nods, and carefully stretches out his leg.]

The muscles in this one have always been weaker, ever since it got trapped in the rubble after the weapon fired.

[It's said as blandly as possible. He'd always considered that part of his punishment for doing something like that.]

And that was quite some time ago, eh?

[Colin moves AZ's pants leg up so he can massage the knee directly, and he shakes his head.]

Wish we were back in my world, the doctors on my ship could put you back together better than new. But I suspect you probably don't care about that, nor does it matter since it's not going to be an issue for quite some time.

Floette's still in with Ryu and Zulf, I assume you know?

[The leg looks okay, but as Colin starts massaging, he'll definitely be able to feel the weakness in the muscle.]

It's usually fine. I'm not used to moving that fast.

[He nods, and sighs deeply.]

I don't blame her for wanting to leave the room. From what I heard, she saw a lot of bodies during the war.

... Yeah, I can see that. Heavens and hells, man. No wonder you need the brace...

[Colin's going to keep working.]

... Yeah, I get that one too. Doesn't affect me, but I'm hardly normal. I've known plenty of people, soldiers and otherwise, affected horribly by wars.

I've learned to live with it.

[He nods at that.]

I've seen some. But not on a huge scale...
freedom_engineer: (curious)

[personal profile] freedom_engineer 2014-02-24 05:56 am (UTC)(link)
[Colin nods, and he lets it drop. If AZ wanted to talk about it, he'd say more.]

At the risk of offense, knowing what you've told me... you're lucky.

Wars only get worse as time passes.

Do you think Floette will be okay?

Will you be okay?
gianthobo: (feel the fear in my enemy's eyes)

[personal profile] gianthobo 2014-02-24 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[Good, because he really doesn't. Remembering that time is... painful. He was in such a terrible state...]

They do... and she should be okay. I think. We haven't been reunited for all that long, honestly. It's still a little hard to read her sometimes.

Me? I'll be fine. I'm no warrior, but I've seen enough death and pain to know how to deal with it.

[It's only a little bit of a lie. Seeing people in pain, especially young people, is never easy.]
freedom_engineer: (Softer)

And if you were four feet shorter, gray skinned, and had breasts, I could mistake you for any soldier on my ship.

[Colin's just going to keep working on AZ's leg.]

That's a familiar line to anyone who's done anything military. I won't press the matter, you're a big boy. But remember. In this world, it's going to be way too easy to get overwhelmed.
gianthobo: (for my head on a silver plate)

[personal profile] gianthobo 2014-02-25 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
[... What. No seriously, what, Colin? AZ just stares for a moment. He'll. Not press that.]

I know. ... Though you're right. Even over the years, I've never really gotten comfortable with seeing things like that. Even the deaths I caused, I couldn't bear to look at the bodies. Ever since I was young... I just... can't.

[He looks away a bit, embarrassed.]

[A large majority of the population of his empire are short, gray-skinned women with a military upbringing. Don't worry, it's one of those Xeno-relations things he doesn't expect anyone to get.]

You don't need to feel bad about that. It means you've still got your decency, your...

[He pauses a moment, scanning his internal lexicon]

Your humanity. Nothing to be ashamed about there. Killing, death, it's one of those things that people have risen above, that they don't feel comfortable with. It takes training in any number of fields to overcome that.

But then, I'm sure you know that. It's nothing you need to be ashamed of.

[Yeah some time he's gotta ask Colin about space travel.]

I know. Still, it makes me feel a little strange. There are a lot of fighters here, and while I know I have my own skills it does make me feel a little more obsolete when it's difficult to go out to look for supplies. Most of the time if I see strange creatures on the Skyway coming towards me I get out of the way the best I can.

[Sometimes he has to call on one of his Pokemon to fight. It's never pleasant for him. There's just something that feels wrong about these creatures.]
