What: Bon helped Rin work through a lot of her feelings about Hikaru's arrival and the continued lack of Yuki in her life, and things are better for it, but there's still something she has to do...

[Apologies - good ones, anyway - were never Rin's strong suit. She usually had to be muscled in to being sincere by Father Fujimoto because in her mind she hadn't done anything wrong  whenever she got in trouble like that. She was just giving people what they deserved for being assholes, after all. But it was moments when she actually fucked up in a way that hurt people she didn't want to hurt that she found herself at a loss for what to do. Should she apologize? Would it even be accepted if she did? Would she come off sounding insincere? What if the person she hurt didn't want to see her?

These were all the things going through her head as she stared at the closed hospital room door, holding a bag in her hands in front of her, slightly more cleaned up and dressed up than she normally would have been on a typical day. She stared at the door handle, as if willing it to move on its own so she didn't have to make that step forward to grab it herself. If something could have just conveniently shoved her in the room to get things started...

But that wasn't going to happen, and she knew it. Taking a breath in, she went for the door and knocked on it gently.]

[he can practically feel that and shifts a bit against Hikaru to let him know that he's not trying to hide anything, and that anything Hikaru wants to know, of course Kaoru will tell. But a lot of what he's left out have been Seimei Stories because, y'know, they did a lot of that stuff together. That's one of his main reasons for skirting around it. He doesn't want to load too much onto Hikaru too soon.]

I wasn't being dirty. A love nest is like… it's a nest for love birds, ne? And love birds are cute. […Bon, cute? All right, perhaps it's a little bit tenuous…] I was just intrigued, that's all.

[He exhales sharply. He knows there are good reasons for not being told everything all at once, but Kaoru, this sounds like Important Dangerous Stuff. He'll be interrogating you on it later, that's for sure.

[Now you've done it. That's even worse some how, and Rin is all sorts of huffing and puffing and tsun tsun tsun.]

…I was happy for you guys, you know. You've been dancing around each other for ages and now you're finally moving in together. I think it's wonderful that you love each other and Rin-chan gets to have a happy ending.Alas it seems I may have misread the situation.

[the disappointment is entirely feigned, but the words are rooted in how he really feels. He's happy for them… but Rin isn't half silly]

So if it's not mushy and it's not love, what exactly is in then?

Maybe it's something that's just purely physical?

[He doesn't know these guys well enough to help out very well. Sorry, Kaoru.]

We--... a couple doesn't have to be... mushy and all romantic to be a couple, Kao-chan. Ryuuji and I are... different. Hell, we barely got along when we first met! We still have stupid arguments about stupid things but--

But he cares about me... a lot. P... probably more than he ever expected to! And I guess-- I mean, I know I feel the same way.

["Love" may be a ways out still, but the fact that they had the conversation at all - about being a proper couple, behaving like it and not being so reluctant to show affection in public - was still a massive step forward for the two of them. As was moving in together.]

... I'm really happy I have him.

That's better. [all right, yes, he did have to manipulate her into the admission a little bit, but she did admit it and that's good. Better than acting all tough and cool and denying it was big. Because of course it was big. Anyone who didn't think something like this in their life was big was either fooling themselves or doing something wrong.]

…separate bedrooms?

[She almost said something about "wanting to keep the other rooms free, just in case", but she knows that goes right back to the tough demon girl act.]

... the beds in the apartments are really small.

[Now excuse her while her face turns a particularly bright shade of red.]

[more blinking. That's kind of a random thing to throw out there, isn't it?]

Well you could always push two together, if that's an issue?

I meant the original apartments, not the tower. That was... one'a the reasons I suggested it...

[Meaning she basically asked Bon to share a bed with her without... using those exact words.]

Oh. Oh.

Yeah, those apartments sucked. [he can't resist a slight shudder. He hated his apartment, it took a lot just to make it just barely liveable, and he got out as soon as he could]

I'm glad they're not all the same, then. To be honest, I can't imagine why you wouldn't have escaped sooner.

I didn't really have a reason to. I grew up in an old church and boy's home that was barely runnin' by the time Yuki and I came along. And after that we shared a dorm room in the one dormitory that wasn't even bein' used anymore.

[Basically, she's lived in worse conditions.]

The Tower is a lot nicer, though. I'm just hopin' this works out with me and him..

[Kaoru was used to better. So it was a rather hard adjustment for him]

We'll keep our fingers crossed for you, ne? I'm sure it will.
