Day 150 | Action | Open | Orange Gels smell like they say
Who: Duke, anyone-
Open: Open
When: 150th or so
Where: Training Hall
What: Duke has shard'd up a new building, and has finally sat down with the gift
Format: I will follow
Warnings: Depressed knight, spoilers for Tales of Vesperia if any of you care that much- XD
Duke had been rather busy after finding the gift in the shrine. After opening it, the knight had more or less wrapped it back up, made a trip back to put it away, and focused very intently on cleanup.
The next day was spent scribbling in a clear patch of dirt, because why use good paper when the knight wasn't sure it could be done. But then Duke vanished with a collection of shards, heading off to the Skyway almost empty handed after that.
Which leaves today. Today, the knight is inspecting a new building - a moderately tall, plain looking one a little more rectangle than square, with a four foot fence surrounding the area between it and the edge of the Bastion. Duke looks a little pleased after inspecting it.
Bother the knight?
Or, alternatively, explore the building some hours later, closer to when the clouds move in for night, and find the knight settled in a corner of the second story, struggling to keep steady hands while mending an odd black and red coat.
(OOC: Duke has acquired Twin's Coat from the gods, and has gotten around to getting a moderately good training building. PM me questions? )

[ Although now the knight grimaces. That man was gone. ]
Here? Definitely. We have a surprising amount of younger people. One of them had a fairly good idea - here.
[ And Duke starts off, going around the corner of the building and inside. ]
An archer brought these up. [ That's the explanation as the knight goes to a corner. There's wooden monsters settled there. ]

[He glances down the fence line curiously.]
Either way, I'll be needing to use this facility. My targeting program isn't used to ballistics, so I'll need to put a couple hundred rounds down range to get it calibrated properly. A set target range will help dramatically.
[He looks at the monsters, and grins slightly.]
Scenario practice?

[ There's even a folded up windbag frame hiding in there. ]
I think that is what you would call them. Mostly for these.
[ At these, the knight pats the ones that look like Lunkheads. It has a big metal plate on the face. ]
I didn't have enough shards to get anything for guns to shoot at, so you will be free to do your thing with that, without some swordsman making mistakes on what you need.

[Colin gestures to the targets]
Have you got automation set up for them? Pop-up targets and the like? Or is everything going to be set in place on a course?

[ The targets, right- ]
I was thinking "this is how to attack hit without hitting each other", mostly. Some teamwork exercises, basically. I didn't have enough shards to get many of them.
[ A thin smile. ]
All I could do with making them move would involve pulleys. But pop-up, that sounds like how squirts usually show up...

[Colin nods appreciatively as Duke talks.]
I can probably rig up something for a reflex course, if you want me to. Team awareness is a worthwhile training goal, though. Especially since we don't have many people used to working in teams. And those of us that do still aren't entirely used to everyone else here. Major lack of team cohesion...

[ The knight shrugs. ]
That would be a helpful project.
[ And Duke thinks about it. Hmn- ]
Depending on the scale, and how similar to skyway you can get it, it might be better to rope off another section of the Bastion for that.

Mostly, what I'm thinking is just a small, walking course, with targets set up all around. The person running the course chooses which targets to pop up, and the person challenging the course has to take the targets in a timely fashion.
More advanced courses often have recognisable friendly targets so as to teach people that not everything that pops up is hostile. Teaching someone to shoot at a moment's notice isn't a good thing if they shoot a scared little boy that runs out of a hiding spot, after all.

... that makes sense. And sounds rather doable. Could make runs and gather up some of the random scrap that seems to litter the skyway - make it the obstacles, or cover, that one could find out there. Maybe for intermediate, once they get the idea of "this is my reaction time".
[ A dry laugh. Yeah, hitting an ally who goes running through would be bad. ] Very true.

Since this place is your baby, though, I won't impose myself. Just come and grab me at the workshop whenever you want me to do it. And when we've got the materials for it, of course.
[He gives Duke a wry grin, then.]
Basically? Think of what you'd want to challenge yourself, in any way. And then ask me to make it. I'll happily do it for you, though I can't promise you'll be first in line every time.
