[Some afternoons are just meant to be spent lazing about. After spending the morning hunting as usual, Alucard figured this was as good a time as any to nap.

Sometimes those that can shapeshift do not wish to use the form they usually prefer. This would be why there is a giant black bat hanging from the overhang of the front porch of the Hitachiin-Abe house, dead to the world. A bit of an odd sight, but gosh that fur looks fluffy...]

Alucard?

[Once upon a time, a few months ago really, Rin hadn't been capable of figuring out Alucard in his various animal forms. It had made for some interesting, occasionally awkward moments between the two of them, but through those moments she'd started to train her heightened sense of smell to catch those more subtle tones that would point him out to her.

Of course it helped that there weren't exactly an abundance of creatures that weren't Skyway born or brought in by other means. An odd wolf or bat around was a bit more obvious than one might have previously thought.

Which was why she was standing under the overhang, looking up at the fluffy bat while calling his names. Seimei had asked her to keep an eye on Kaoru and Alcuard, after all, and she'd been a bit... bad about it after certain events in the observatory.

But Seimei still wasn't back, and as worried as she was she was going to keep her promise as much as she possibly could.]

[Funny how Seimei had pretty much asked Alucard to do the same as he had Rin.

The bat opens an eye to stare at her a moment, then opens the other and chitters a soft greeting to his friend.]

Hello Rin. What brings you here today?

[He had reason enough to worry about the people he was leaving behind, even if it was only temporarily.]

Just checking up on everyone!

[She offers a cheerful smile at that.]

[He slowly blinks, then yawns before answering.]

All is well here, as far as I know.

Okay! I thought so, but I told Seimei I would check on you guys.

[Obviously that hadn't been happening recently, but Alucard had been there when Rin had gotten ill by the fire suppressant.]

You'll lemmie know if you need anythin' right?

[Fire suppressant is certainly a valid excuse in this case.]

I shall, if you promise the same.

Oh. Well... yeah, I guess I can promise that.

[ A giant fluffy ... bat? Of all the things Viola had imagined that she would see when she finally worked up the courage to approach the Hitachiin-Abe house was an especially large night dweller. (She always thought the house was too clean and noble for someone of her lifestyle.) She cocked her head to the side as she approached, noting that she had never seen a bat that size. ]

Isn't it a little too sunny out here for you? [ Her question was more rhetorical than directed at the bat. But the sight of a bat in the middle of the day was just odd. ]

[Even if the question wasn't entirely directed at him, the bat answers with a shrug. Perhaps odd behavior for a normal bat, but here in the Bastion? Well, all bets are off.]

[ That's funny, Viola could've sworn she actually saw that bat shrug. How bizarre. ]

Well, seems like it doesn't bother you. [ She sat down on the porch, dangling her legs off the front. Yeah, she just likes to talk to animals. ] This place is a far cry better than sleeping in some dank old cave.

[He nods in agreement. Caves by themselves can be rather comfortable, but if it happens to be damp then they can be somewhat uncomfortable. Besides, even creatures of the night tend to prefer warm spots.]
