[The group going to the Ura camp left early in the morning. However, Day 322 is far from uneventful. Come mid-afternoon, Nathaniel can be heard shouting, trying to get the attention of anyone he can.]

HEY! That thief got into the storage again! This time they didn't just take compasses, but amulets too!

[ She was on her way to the hospital to go visit Haruka because as much as she wanted to stay there by his side constantly, she was being strongly encouraged to go home when she started passing out on his bed. That was when she happened across Nathaniel. ]

That's ... nice?

Is the thief stealing compasses from the rich and giving amulets to the poor?

[... sorry Nathaniel these two probably aren't going to... be much help]

If it's a nice theft... maybe thief-chan is going to make something cool with the compasses and amulets! Like a cool and stylish watch that puts all features together in one package, but with added features! And video games, too!

[What does Anya do when she overhears that the thief has struck again?

Go home to check on the safety of her own belongings.

Only once she's certain that everything is accounted for, and her door is locked, and she's verified (from a distance) that the same number of rabbits appear to be in their pen, does she go back to address Nathaniel.]

Haven't all the things stolen been yours? Can't you think of anyone who has it out for you?

Technically, these aren't mine. They're for anyone, and I wouldn't care if they were actually being used. But apparently they're just getting dumped over the side of the Bastion.

[He heard about what happened with the last batch of compasses.]

So things don't just get shot back up like people do?

Did they land somewhere?

No clue, but I think they might just keep falling. I've tried throwing rocks and such over the edge, and they don't get shot back up. I think only living things do.

[Rose had more or less kept to herself since arriving here. It wasn't that she was being purposely anti-social, but new surroundings and the knowledge that she may never seen Greg or her Gems again had her more likely to spend time indoors than investigating her surroundings.

That wasn't to say she had spent all of her time alone. She had befriended Ibuki after all. It was just that her usual enjoyment of human company simply wasn't there right now.

Today, though, she had ventured outside simply to walk a bit of restlessness off right before Nathaniel came tearing through. He might have even heard her singing something to herself if he hadn't been yelling so much.

She cut off mid-note at his approach, looking startled and worried.]

Again? This has happened before?

[If Nathaniel weren't so focused on his problems, he might have noticed the singing. For now, though, he is scouting the area around the storage shed as he answers her.]

Once before, yeah. The thief wasn't caught that time, and I'm not seeing any trace of them this time either. Besides the stuff being missing, I mean.

[Maybe she'll sing for you another time, Nathaniel.]

Ohh... that's not good at all. What did they steal last time?

The same thing, the compasses.

[Where else would Rin be but the kitchen?

Well, probably at the onsen or at home with Bon, but it's afternoon so of course she's in the kitchen.

Hearing Nathaniel yelling gets her attention away from whatever she was working on, though, head popping out from the back door to wave him down.]

Yo! What's goin' on?

[What a coincidence, Nathaniel was just heading to the distillery to see if the thief had snuck into there! So he is close when Rin waves for him.]

The thief struck again. This time both amulets and compasses got taken. I don't want to lock the shed, everyone should be able to get into that stuff, but I think I might have to.

Fuckin' seriously?! This is seriously startin' to be a problem. [Rin huffs, crossing her arms over her dirty apron with a scowl.] We might need to get like. People to guard it. 'course that ain't gonna help if we don't know who the fuck is doin' this! I swear some one is askin' for a fist to the face...

Yeah, we need to figure out who is doing it and talk to them about it.

Which is what I'm hoping to do, they probably broke into it within the last hour, so they should still have the stuff on them. I was in the shed about an hour ago, and nothing was missing then.

[Patchouli just... happens to be wandering around and runs into a shouting Nathaniel. She tries to get him to stop, but... maybe he won't hear her when she speaks to him.]

Can I make a suggestion?

Er, yeah, what do you have in mind?

I think having some kind of lock might be a good idea.

[As dry and cynical as ever.]

[Oh look he can be just as dry in return.]

Well thanks, Patchouli, I never would have thought of that on my own.

[Amulets too now? Okay, now Colin isn't liking what he's hearing. Before, he could attribute it to sabotage... Now? Now he's getting a less pleasant mental picture.]

That damn thief...

I'm going to buy some equipment to set up a surveillance system. With your permission, I'll set it up to watch a couple of vital points in the Bastion.

The monument, the storage shed, the farm, and the hospital.

[He's also going to set up EXTENSIVE surveillance around his workshop, but he's not going to ask permission for that one...]

I was actually going to ask you about that.

[Anya suggested it first, and it sounds like a good idea.]

Maybe set it up, but keep it quiet? So that people can still come and go, but we'll catch the thief in action.

I was thinking a camera system and a sound recorder. I can't cover everything in a covert manner, but I can definitely cover the ingress. ... And maybe some less likely means of entry.

[He starts walking towards the shack, beckoning for Nathan to follow.]

I'm wondering, Nathan, I was talking to Mitellux the other day...

Have you told anyone about the projects we've been doing? Our perpetrator seems to be harassing YOU and your activities more than anything else. I'm wondering if you managed to piss someone off.... either here, or before...

I keep my projects pretty open, yeah. Everyone knows about them.

[He starts counting off on his fingers.]

There's the amulets, maintaining the radio tower and trying to push its signal out further, monitoring the Bastion's functions, Maintaining a base of Mancer knowledge, charting upgrades and repair completion...nothing that anyone would really be opposed to, right? I mean, all of those things benefit everyone here.

[Maybe Colin can see something Nathaniel doesn't, though.]
