Day 320 :: Log :: OPEN :: too many shards?

Talking to people has gotten easier, after being here for such a long time (two hundred and sixty days, Crona's counted). It's still a little bit difficult, but maybe this is as easy as it's going to get. Because Crona has a little bit of a problem.

See, the meister is very good at Skyway trips, but very bad at knowing what to get with shards. The little dragons that have been here for longer than most people were one of Crona's wishes, and healing powers that the meister's never had a good chance to use were another. But that was it. And when you've only made two wishes but you go out on the Skyway every day, shards start to pile up.

So Crona (and of course Ragnarok, who's currently growing out of Crona's back) and Crona's pet squirt (who is bad at floating and mostly perches on Crona's shoulder) are wandering around the Bastion, and carefully approaching people who don't look busy.

"Um... Do you have any good ideas for things people should buy with shards?"

"This idiot can't think of anything!"

"... you can't think of anything either, Ragnarok."

Crona's been around, has probably seen Rob before, but the meister hasn't really talked to many people. It's difficult, not knowing how to talk to people.

"I-I was thinking of, um, of getting something for Paarthurnax." Because the dragon is someone extremely important to Crona. "Do you think he'd thing that was a good idea? The alchemy ingredients?"

Rob can definitely relate, though even he's not usually as bad as Crona can be.

"I don't see why not? He brought the first ones in, after all."

"I'll have to ask him what we need. I..." Crona doesn't like the idea. Crona doesn't know if that's okay. It's too much like magic, too much like everything that Crona knows is very very wrong. "If he thinks it's a good idea, I'll get it."

It's fairly obvious by his expression that Rob's confused by Crona's response.

"He hasn't complained about the different plants I've brought in?"

"I don't know. Has he? I haven't asked him. I've been on the Skyway a lot." Probably on the Skyway too much, but it's easy.

"He knows that I've been working on alchemy stuff, so I assume he would've said something if he didn't want me getting any other ingredients."

"I... I know that. But um..." But alchemy is magic and magic is destruction and destruction isn't supposed to be here, and even if it's been almost a year since Crona's been in the world that Crona knew, it's hard to accept that magic is anything safe. But because Crona trusts Paarthurnax, Crona will go along with what the dragon thinks is right.

"But...?"

Rob has no idea what's going through Crona's head right now and is still looking confused.

"Mmmmm." Sorry, Rob, all you're getting is an inarticulate noise of agreement.
