Life goes on in the Bastion. Whether death, calamity, or simple misfortune, that is how things work. That is how it goes for Paarthurnax, as well.

In the morning, when the sun is still faint, he takes off to the Skyway and doesn't return for some hours, bringing back both shards stuck in his teeth and the meat of a mammoth to eat, or share.

In the noon and some hours following it, he teaches his class at the stone tablet with its letters in his own tongue, patient and careful for both new students and more practiced ones alike.

The only change to this seems to come in the evening. It's then that people might notice him at the Monument, drawn up high as he sits and inspects the device.

People are free to talk with him during any of these times. Paarthurnax has always made it known that he can be approached, after all.

[Grampadragon worries not how smooth people are. He just glances down to the young man not too far away from him, giving a small nod.]

If one does not mind the company of an old dovah.

[ Naegi shakes his head, opting to remind close by as he looks at the dragon with a reassuring smile on his face. ]

Of course not! I would love your company.

... I'm Makoto Naegi, by the way. Ibuki-san talks about you a lot, but I believe this is the first item we've actually met in person.

I have seen you around the Bastion as well. [When one can't fit inside the buildings, people watching ends up being a thing you do whether you like it or not, after all.] It is a pleasure, Makoto Naegi.

Others have spoken well of you.

[bulletofhope]

A-ah, have they?

[ Naegi suddenly feels himself becoming really self-conscious, blushing a little in embarrassment as he scratches the back of his head. ]

I see...

... what brings you here to the Monument, if you don't mind me asking?

[fireburn]

It just seems so much different than anything I've done.

[wayofvoice]

You are well thought of.

[So enjoy that compliment, Naegi.]

[At the question, however, Paarthurnax lets out a thoughtful rumble.]

I am thinking on that which we have recently learned.

[wayofvoice]

I know the feeling well. I have gone quite a different road than how I was in my youth... But I have found it more preferable.

Perhaps by trying that which seems foreign to you, you will learn more of yourself as well.

[bulletofhope]

Ah... the time travel and all, right? It's a lot to take in.

[ Naegi himself isn't sure what to make of it, just that it could have a lot of good or a lot of bad considering his situation before the Bastion.

Part of him is wondering if it would be worth it, if it meant stopping Monobear before the murder games could begin. ]

. . . I admit, I'm still not sure what, exactly, to make of it.

Traveling through time is not something unusual to me. My kind are the offspring of one who governed it, in the realm I know.

[It's how his brother was able to survive being sent forward through it. That, Paarthurnax doesn't doubt.]

Yet it is not something normal... Not something which should be used so freely.

[bulletofhope]

I see...

[ Naegi pauses, nodding a little - considering all the people that he's met here he wasn't surprised at the dragon having dominion over time, after all. ]

You're right, though... there's a lot that goes into time travel, if I recall right. The biggest one mainly being the motives and ethics behind using it in the first place...

[wayofvoice]

There is a large risk with it. The past is not meant to be meddled with so.

[There's a slow huff of air, and he gives a conceding nod.]

Yet some would say that the past can be changed. Certainly, the desire to undo what wrong has been made is strong.

[fireburn]

[that is actually....really good advice. she was not expecting this.]

I will...look into it.

I wish you the best of fortune in your endeavor, then. Should you wish to speak again, then I reside in the field across the river.

I can understand it since a lot of us have some unfinished business from before the Calamity struck.

[ Himself included. ]

Still... it does seem a little too convenient a solution presented to us, isn't it...?

[wayofvoice]

You believe there is more to it, then?

[bulletofhope]

Well, I may be wrong about that, so I can't really say for sure...

[ Naegi frowns, closing his eyes as he attempts to piece together his thoughts on the matter. ]

But to me, it feels like there's a catch to using time travel to go back... well, aside from the obvious in preventing the Calamity in the first place...

I don't know. Part of me feels like I'm overthinking this, but...

[ There's anyother part of him warning him that it may not be the solution they want. Thank his time at Hope's Peak for giving him that idea, at least. ]

It is a choice that could change everything. Is it not natural to think heavily on such a subject?

[Paarthurnax gives a nod to the apartments.]

We must know more, yet only Nathaniel knows anymore about the Bastion and what it can do. Colin wishes to learn more... But I do not believe he cares to deal with people as of the time being.

[bulletofhope]

[ Okay, that does get Naegi to laugh a little and relax somewhat as he nods in agreement at that. ]

Good point... there's a lot to really dwell on here, huh?

As much as I want to go back - there's a lot that I still had to do before this happened - you're right. I feel like the only way we'd make sure to have no regrets doing this is knowing as much as we can about this.

But where would we even start...?

It seems as though asking those who are most familiar with the Bastion would be the best choice. Nathaniel is the one whom we have relied on for its function.

[bulletofhope]

. . . did we get his thoughts on this?

I admit I only heard about most of this second-hand, so I don't really know what the others thought of the idea...

[ Because he figures that an idea like this was bound to divide their camp of survivors right down the middle based on what was a good idea or not. ]

Nathaniel and Zulf... did not agree on the capabilities of the Monument's abilities.

They are not particular friends even on the better of their days.

[That's common knowledge for any of the residents who were there for the great "a pair of dumbasses who fell off the Bastion" event. Actually it seems like they learn a lot about what's really happened whenever Zulf and Nathaniel get into it...]

[bulletofhope]

Yeah, I've been told their fights are legendary... that's really nothing new, is it?

[ He pauses. ]

I can't say they're wrong about disagreeing, though.

t's really not something that any of us can take lightly... whatever we choose to do, we'll have to live with that decision.

[wayofvoice]

No. However, it seems that Nathaniel does not believe in the words Zulf told us. At least, he did not then in that heated moment.

Perhaps his mind has changed since then. Either way, perhaps someone should speak with him.

Ah... do you recall what exactly was said?

[ This does not bode well... ]
