Again, it depends on the culture. Psilons, for example, are a race that places science, knowledge, and demonstrations of knowledge above all else. The arrogance you see in me is a cultural norm, there.
Bulrathi on the other hand, before they were wiped out, were a race of rough-around-the-edges conquerors. They had little patience for talk, and less patience for people being as full of themselves as I am. Conversations among them tended to be friendly, or end in a fight.
The Humans and the Darlocks wiped their empire from the galactic map, though. When you've got neighbors that can defend themselves, being a race of conquerors isn't exactly to your advantage...
