[Day 187] Take my fate in your hands
Who: Rin and Yukio
Open: Closed
When: Day 187
Where: Tower Apartments
What: Rin has a gift for her recently arrived little brother.
Format: Action
Warnings: Rin, as always
[Sooo... having Yukio here was...
Let's face it. It was weird. It was strange to see some one every day that resembled that person you grew up, and for all intents and purposes was that person, but with one key difference. Not that Rin gave two shits about gender. Not giving a shit about something didn't exactly matter when that one key difference was staring you in the face day in and day out.
But they were actually doing a halfway decent job of getting along. Ish. They weren't really arguing too much because there wasn't too much to argue over, what with school and homework and training not really being an issue. Rin's slow degrade of the control of her flames would probably come in to question sooner or later, but so far? They were doing an okay job of working together on the skyway and not being too pissy with each other.
At home, though... it was a slightly different story. Again, no major arguments, but... it was awkward. Very awkward. The fact that Rin and Bon were a couple and were slightly more apt to show it than they used to be certainly didn't help matters much, but there was a lot of two sentence conversations and unsure greetings and generally being really quiet around one another when they were in the apartment together.
It made Rin want to avoid being home, and she had been spending a little more time at the distillery and at the Pokemon day care than she really needed to.
Thankfully it was the latter that actually helped give her an idea that might edge them closer to something resembling decent conversation. She wanted to get Yukio a gift, and while AZ had suggested cooking him something she eventually dismissed the idea since she did that anyway. For everyone. Including Yukio.
No, it was a conversation with Hilda that actually cemented the idea in her head, and on this afternoon in the Bastion, Rin would be seen running the length from the daycare to the tower with two hefty sized eggs in her arms and a small device in one hand. Once inside the apartment, Yukio will hear a thudding like a knock but lower on the door.
It's not like she has her hands free to knock properly.]
Yukiiiiioooooo~

Yukiiiiioooooo~

[Exactly, Yukio.]
... uhm. ... yeah.
[She fidgets now, looking down at the Pokedex in her hands awkwardly.]
If... if you don't want it I can take it back to them. I just thought... [She trails off, then adds in a sheepish mutter:] ... I don't know what I thought...

Has it really only been two weeks since then? Two weeks of slow acceptance. Working things through in his mind and trying to be as reasonable as possibly after he bunked things up so badly after arrival and-
Nope, stop looking like that, Rin. Stop being a sad girl where he can see.]
No, it's okay. I just-... We never had pets before.
no subject
Okay really she doesn't want to be like that, and she hates that it's so obvious, but that's how bad things have been for her in the months since her arrival. She's had so much of herself slowly chipped away in the wake of the end of the world that things she would have hidden otherwise are far more apparent and on the surface.
It's actually rather painful to watch.
When he speaks again she perks up a bit, wail starting to wag a little.]
Well there was Kuro, but that was later anyway, right?
Now's a good time to start, right? Hilda says they're really, really smart so it'll be more like companions than pets.

Besides, what harm could there be in this little indulgence? Rin's making an effort here, and it's not as if Yukio has any sort of busy schedule to use as an excuse. It might even be nice...]
Do you know what kind of care they need?

Uhm. Hilda said the eggs need to stay warm, and that walkin' around with them helps speed up their hatching time. After they're hatched, she and her boyfriend have food for them. Oh and she said havin' them battle sometimes is good exercise for them! And we can do it over at the daycare center so they don't tear up too much of the Bastion.

... Alright, stop thinking so hard, Yukio. Your sibling just brought home giant eggs with video game monsters inside.
He bends over and lays a careful hand on one of the eggs, feeling the texture and the strength of the shell.]
Are they both the same? The... Oshawott?

Rin smiles a little more, sitting down next to her egg. The patterns on them aren't terribly different, but there's a variation in shade to the pale green spots. Probably because his was brought in via shards while Rin's was a result of actual breeding.]
Actually, no! Lessie... show Tepig.
[The Pokedex again. This time with a brown and orange pig looking thing.]
Tepig, the Fire Pig Pokemon. Tepig is a nimble Pokémon capable of blowing fire from its snout. It will cloak itself in these flames in order to use its signature move, Heat Crash.

He seats himself on the other side, picking up what he assumes to be his egg and cradling it gently in both hands.]
Fire and water. [He grins a bit.] Was that on purpose?
no subject
Uh oh. Rin was caught. How did you ever figure out her devious plan?]
... I wasn't sure if an ice type would be okay here.
[So, yes.]
no subject
Yukio chuckles.]
So, yes.
no subject
[So obvious, Rin. So obvious.]

[He looks down at his egg again before offering Rin a little smile.]
... Thank you, Neesan.

You're welcome!
