[So the past few days in the Bastion have been very hectic and a little more than emotionally stressful for everyone. About two days have come and gone since the last very large batch of arrivals have come in to the Bastion, and thankfully since then it's been relatively quiet. It's a good time to compress, meet some new people and maybe have some good food at the distillery courtesy of Rin.]

[He hadn't been all that close to the monument, but that wave of power still knocked him down, in the middle of pulling out a weed.

The flowers and vines on his arms changed colors quickly, all dark. It was like that time - how many years ago? Four? - The blue pox. All the loss; the patients he didn't know, Flick, Henna, the Temple folk, and then Rosethorn. Like his mother that he doesn't even really remember, just the smell of her perfume and how she'd got knifed in an alley. Like waking up here and being unable to tell where Evvy was, still not being able to tell (she can't be dead, she just can't). Like that time when they were around ten, and they thought they were going to die down there. The pirate attack, Rosethorn with the plants when they dumped blaze balm, Daj' on the boat and with the caravan a couple months later, Rosethorn screaming as those plants burned too....

It takes him a moment (how long? He's not sure) before he can send out a tentative message, apologizing to the plants and sitting up as he does. Coppercurls? You okay?

That must be why he felt it, right? From her. Outloud, in case anyone is nearby, he groans.]

What was that?

[ It caused Tris to drop the book, then sit heavily.

Loss. Tris knew that all too well. Even if it had just been something more like abandonment - her family, all of them. None of them wanted her, down to furthest cousins that still had the Chandler name. She hadn't gotten close to anyone when that earthquake hit, but Aymery, with the pirates. The last member of her family who cared. Even if she didn't know them, all the slaves in the ships. They'd drowned because she didn't care, just wanted revenge. Rosethorn, even if that got fixed. Glaki's mother.

And then because this sense of loss made her think about it, what about Emelan? They refused to think about it, about the shriveled threads, but that would mean Sandry, Daja, Lark, Rosethorn, Niko, Duke Vedris-

Briar's question gets that train of thought to stop before she could do anything undignified. That hit you too?

Because she didn't start thinking about that on her own. ]

[He blinks, getting up to go to her. Yeah. You mean you didn't send that at me?

Weeding could wait, at least for right now. This is more important. He looks down at his plants, putting dirt stained hands on his hips.]

Don't go all wild on me now. I'm sorry, but I've got stuff to do. I'll be back, I promise.

[That sounds similar to what he'd told Evvy- No. He can't think about that. Something happened and he has to keep moving, keep trying to help. This ain't a time to lick his wounds like some bleater.]

[ She notices he was on his way up and flicks him where she is - unsurprisingly in the apartments, in the sitting room of theirs. Its not something I would think about on my own. Possibly because she's been avoiding the idea.

She'll pick up her book and get Chime to calm down before he gets there. ]

[That's her alright, and she sounds enough like herself that she can't be all that shaken up by it. Or is pretending not to be... That still puts a small smile back on his face.

If she can at least pretend to be okay after that, then he can to. They can deal with it later. Preferably after helping anyone else who got hit with whatever that was.

Now that he's on the right floor, he just calls silently, Open the door? I've still got dirt all over.]

[ She doesn't really respond to that, just opens the door.

Good, he is still here. ]

As far as I can tell, that was just a great deal of loss. We could be dealing with falls from other people.

[ And possibly a new student. Whoever did that needs some help. ]

[He walks in, careful not to brush up against anything.]

If it's a possible new student, we'll need to teach meditation. How big a meditation circle do you think it'd take to get everyone in it? Even in shifts...

[He'd best get the plants he needs for the ingredients started sometime soon then...They'd run out fast doing that everyday. If only Lark or Sandry were here...They use string and can use it over again!]

Definitely a good idea - at the very least, it can calm everyone down.

[ Something Tris knows very well about meditation - its really good for evening tempers. ]

It depends on if we want to include Paarthurnax - the big dragon. Getting a circle around him would be... tricky.

[ Clearly she ought to use a quick lightning-circle. That will keep them sitting there- ]

That's always good. Didn't they say, back when we started meditating, that everyone has magic, even if it's just the magic of life?

[That's enough reason to get them all to try it, if they can convince them about that. He blinks.]

I think you should talk to him about that.

So we should get all philosophical on them, so they forget we're 18 and 14?

[ Hey, its how she handled Kethlun. Don't let them remember that you're actually younger than them. ]

I'll handle him, you handle the rest?

[ She's teasing. They'll split the bastion in asking them to practice meditation. ]

I think before that happens, we should see what happened. I didn't cause it, you didn't cause it, something had to cause it, which means people probably need some help.

Philosophical, sure. Or we can use lightning and plants.

[Either way works...And don't let them remember your age is the best way to do it. He mock gasps, raising his eyebrows.]

When would I have time for weeding then?

[That is definitely teasing back. In a weird way.]

Yeah. Try and fix the source first, right? And clean up all the damage.

Scaring them first is never the best plan.

[ That may be mostly from her view though.

Oh, she knows the answer. ]

I can give you a nice little bubble of extra sunlight in the evening for your weeding.

[ Best way to tease. ]

I don't feel anymore. Which either means that we blocked out the source, or the source stopped. I would rather start patching people up than going about and asking 'did you send emotional pain into my mind?'
