As a note, this is also your last chance to make any changes that will affect how endgame begins. All things that help or hurt the Bastion residents will be tallied up on September 18th, and the final post will go up shortly after that. So if you want to catch the thief, form any alliances with other NPC groups, or anything else, now is the time to do it.

[Rose had already gotten the few items she felt like she truly required in this place, namely her moss and her sword. She hadn't been involved in much since arriving but there were more than enough whispers and talks around for her to gather that a possibility of some form of attack on their home could happen.

As usual she wasn't doing much in the way of socializing save for those who actively approached her, but she wasn't just sitting on her haunches doing nothing, either.

Near the houses, one might find a very, very large woman with massive pink hair holding a shield and sword, taking one what could only be described as walking plants. She cut through them easily, dodging attacks as they came, pausing only to let them reform and begin again.]

[Zuko is easy enough to find on any given day, but you're not going to catch her resting. Any truce they have with the strangers is tenuous. She wants to be prepared.

She's kept up her heavier training regimen, and is up for teaching or sparring with anyone else who wants to. Kizuna is usually nearby, and feeding or playing with the little dragon accounts for most of Zuko's breaks.

Some of her time she spends at the forge, though she doesn't have the skill yet to make the weapons she knows from home. Still, it's at least one trade she feels she can apprentice herself to. ~~Zuko no you were supposed to find hobbies~~]

[Not being the only heavy hitter in the Bastion had actually been a relief to Rin. She enjoyed fighting, sure, but the way things had been lately had left her in a state of just wanting to be... domestic and not much else.

It was a much needed break after so long of fighting for her life and the lives of others and not much else. Spending time with Ryuji, working in the kitchen, focusing her efforts on the Bastion instead of the Skyway let her grieve properly rather than getting her aggression and upset out in ways that weren't always the most constructive.

But she wasn't deaf to the talks around the Bastion, or the things that had been going on in her absence from the Skyway. She reasoned that sooner or later she might be called on again, either to defend the Bastion itself or to go back to the Skyway.

Best not to let those skills of hers get too rusty.

If anyone goes looking for her and doesn't find her in the kitchen as usual, they might spot her in the training building. If not there, then hobbling her way to the onsen in the late evening, groaning and grumbling about being sore and out of shape as she makes her way to the relaxing hot waters of the bath.]

[It hadn't escaped Colin's notice just how overworked Nathaniel had been. The other engineer was young, inexperienced. He was going to burn himself out at this rate.]

[He suspected that Nathan might not appreciate the input, but he also knew that almost nobody else here had the kind of firsthand knowledge that he had when it came to large scale engineering products.]

[So here he was, tracking down Nathan, for a little shop talk.]

Hey, Nathan, you got a sec?

[Nathaniel has been working himself sick because he is hella embarrassed about what happened with Anya. But Colin is a fellow tech guy, so Nathaniel can bite back the need to snap at him.]

Yeah, what's up?

[While he's been busy, he's also been thinking. There's been a lot of talk, a lot of strange happenings, and frankly, a lot of stuff they just didn't know. Zahi had left him with several unanswered questions. The talk with Anna had been innocent enough, but it also struck him as just a little too convenient. It was time to track him down for a little chat.]

[Still, he liked Zahi, and Zahi seemed to take his military concerns seriously. Even IF Zahi was working against them, and Colin didn't think he was, there would have to be a reason. Above all, Colin wanted to know more. For all that they'd uncovered before, they hadn't explored a lot of the past of this place... And history was bound to have some clues to their current situation.]

[Then there was the fact that Colin was still expecting an attack. No matter whose side Zahi was on, he suspected that Zahi would have some good input on the defenses...]

[He just had to find him...]

Hey Zahi, can I talk to you for a few minutes? I got some questions, I need a learned opinion on a few things...

[Colin smiles at him and moves to grab a spot of floor near him.]

You've been working yourself to the bone, Nathan.

Have you taken a few hours for yourself at ALL since the power scare?

I do sleep, you know. And eat.

[Translation: no.]

[Who's coming for food? Zahi, of course.]

Hey little lady! Got anything tasty cooked up?

So the answer is "No", then.

What are you working on right this minute? What can I take off your plate?

[He gives Nathan a concerned look.]

I'm asking because you're looking visibly frayed. If you don't get some rest and cool off that brain of yours, I'm worried that you're going to give yourself an aneurism. Or an ulcer.

[Zahi is at his home, cleaning the emblem of Pyth on his door when Colin comes looking for him. Gotta keep the tributes to the gods clean and all.]

Sure, what's on your mind?

[You say that like he isn't already nursing what is probably developing into an ulcer.]

There's not much time for rest. We'll probably find those last two cores within a month, so all of this needs to be ready by then.

[He realizes that is a non-answer, though, and that Colin wouldn't accept that.]

I know you normally work with more high-tech stuff, but do you know about functions and usability for stuff like this?

[He indicates to the Monument itself.]

Having a second set of eyes to check my work would be nice.

[Megaera, a couple days in, visits Zuko at the forge.]

... Hrm. An interesting choice of hobby, in the wider context of what's been happening.

[Zuko takes a step back from the forge to look at Megaera, although the heat doesn't really seem to bother her. Kizuna is stretched out not far away, clearly enjoying it.]

My sword master used to worked the forge, so I already knew a little about it. It made sense.

[It's just practical, okay.]

[Naturally if she's going to be at the forge, she'll be working around Stewart. He's not one for a lot of conversation, but he figures that suits a work-minded person like Zuko.

She's learning well, though, and that's something he's admittedly proud of. So many of these kids are doing everything in their power to help this place, and keep everyone safe. He respected that.]

You're progressing well.

Don't I always?

[That's a silly question.]

[Zuko is pretty comfortable around Stewart, generally. It's easier not having to make conversation.

She's not entirely used to praise, though.]

I have a ways to go.

[He's noticed that, which is why he continues to be encouraging.]

You'll have to give yourself credit for a job well done eventually. This isn't an easy trade to learn, but you've taken to it well.

[Zuko actually smiles a little when she sees the other girl come up to the training building. She's never said anything about Rin dropping out of the fighting, but she always felt the most affinity with Rin's abilities.]

It's been a while.

[Some part of Zuko is trying to figure out how to deny that, but if he's the experienced blacksmith and she's still learning, then his assessment is the one with actual weight.

Which means she's doing a good job?]

...I'll keep at it then.

[She would have attributed it to his teaching but that wouldn't be giving herself credit so she.. can't do that?? Maybe she should attempt to change the topic to make sure he can't keep confusing her with how well she's doing.]

I haven't asked. How's Anna doing after the other week?

Entirely too much. Questions, comments, idle musings...

Walk with me? I think your daughter is still nursing a healthy dislike for me.

[He gestures off in the distance in a non-committal direction]

First things first, I need a military mind. The attack on the Ura never came. I never even picked up a trace of the other group.

Zed said he thinks they haven't got the manpower. And the reports from the diplomacy team said that they lost a lot of people to attrition and to attack. Something doesn't sit right with that though... They've got way more capability than they should have for a small group.

I'm not good at military analysis, and I'm wondering if it's just paranoia. So... if you've got any thoughts on that, I'd be grateful to hear them.

I don't know, I guess I might be worrying too much.

[He can give you a good medicine of that. Starfury disorder is a medically recognized ulcer issue in his universe...]

Unless something's on fire, there's always time for rest. If you don't let a system rest, it will break down.

[He smirks slightly.]

As for this, I've done enough poking around and theorycrafting to be able to check things out. I think I can check it out for you.
