Day 323 (Open)

Who: Colin, anyone interested in what he's doing.
Open: Like a convenience store.
When: Day 323, all morning. (BACKDATED)
Where: Several key locations around the Bastion.
What: Setting up surveillance systems
Format: Action to start, but anything's good.
Warnings: A short-tempered Colin.

[Just the other day he had been speaking with Nathan about the thefts that had been taking place. They'd agreed that some sort of surveillance system would be necessary in order to better defend against the thief.]

[Then the party came back, minus two souls, and Colin's mind went straight into defense mode. Cameras were purchased, sites were chosen, and plans were put in motion.]

[This morning Colin is moving from place to place, setting up cameras and wires as appropriate. Some of the cameras are huge, blatant affairs that can't help but be noticed. Others are tiny, designed to be hidden.]

[He's stopping by most of the buildings in the Bastion to set up at least one camera. If anyone has an opinion on big brother, now's your time to express yourself.]

[She smiles back, soft and warm, but her expression purses into bright curiosity as he continues. Wings aflutter for balance, she comes to her toes, peering into the glass.]

Is there someone seeing me right now, then? By...using this?

Not just yet.

[He smiles a little wider at her curiosity.]

Not until I get them properly hooked up. They send the view to a screen where anyone can see it, if they're watching. They're going into places where we want to make sure nobody's going to misbehave. The hospital, our food stores, those sorts of places.

[To her, a screen means a divider—800s fantasy Europe represent—so she doesn't...quite think she gets it.

Nervous about being mistaken, she speaks softly, slowly, after a moment of silent consideration.] So...is it like having an eye that watches elsewhere? [Not that that's exactly how eyes work, but she can grasp metaphor just fine, okay.]

That's right. It's... a sentinel, perhaps? A ward?

Gah...

[He shakes his head, his expression thoughtful and full of effort as he tries to find the right words.]

I can't remember what my sister called that spell... it's an observer. Something to watch an area when nobody's there.

But...it is not alive. [She sounds uncertain, because those all sound like ways you'd talk about a living thing? The metaphor is becoming increasingly complex and she's kind of losing her grasp on it.]

... AH! I know. Hang on just a second.

[He reaches to his toolbelt and pulls a Datapad off it. He taps at it a few times, then he holds it out to her.]

Here, look at this, and I'll show you what I mean.

[He's tied the screen to his artificial eye. She won't know that, so maybe she'll think it's the camera he's also got pointed at her?]

[He turns then, letting the screen show everything he's looking at.]

See how it's showing you everything?

Oh! [Not taking the Datapad, she glances between it and the camera, because of course the idea that anything else could be doing this doesn't occur to her.] Is this what the eye sees?

[He turns to look at her, also pointing the camera at her, and he smiles.]

Wave for the camera? No better demonstration than showing you yourself.
